Griz football is over as we know it

Big G - not following you here. I'm pretty jazzed about the 2013 Griz signing class. I see a lot of good pick ups. You seem to be judging the whole team based on one year's recruits. They are a great add to what we currently have...and what we had in 2012 was a lot of young players (Fresh/Soph.)

Bellevue Griz - Not sure where you got Florida State has the #1 signing class today? Is that your opinion or did you see that posted somewhere?

This is what's posted at ESPN:

Go Griz! Welcome to all the new recruits! :thumb:

Griz football now is not what most of us know it as. Not making the playoffs two of the last three years is not how I know griz football. I think this class takes a lot of big steps in the right direction of improving our chances of making the playoffs for years to come. Specialty position players are a must! You can have all the huge linemen in the world, but if there is no one to run thru the hole, who cares? A solid QB is a must this year. I believe that all the off-season work of trent Mckinney will really stand out this spring and year...I am still not counting JJ out either!

You guys do realize that 23 replies is why idiots post shit like this, right?

Wait, I just did the same. 24

F-ck me!

I guess BigG's kid or himself were not recruited the GRIZ because they had no talent. Now, to make it better, every recruiting class sucks from this point forward.
That's some fine work there mtgrizrule :thumb:

The big IF remains do we have the football brain power from hc on down to make it happen. Idiotic and clueless game management cost us dearly in 2012, perhaps salvaging a 8-3 season...

I have hopes some lessons learned and a 9 win or better is our fate this fall.

Go Griz

It's not up to snuff with last year but I like this class for the CBs and Safety play I think we got. The RB group may be deepest in the BSC. Now lets find a QB or two that can survey the field and deliver the ball on the regular. To go along with that improved coaching brain power.

I am actually going to disagree with the D-bag who started this thread and actually agree with PussycatMuscleTats.

Griz football is not over. Does anyone remember Alabama being that "down" during the early 2000s? Did any Alabama fan really think all was lost? Montana is an Alabama caliber FCS program. Not even the NCAA could kill the program. With a coaching staff dedicated to discipline on and off the field, Montana will be back to dominance in no time. Even Penn State, as we speak, is pulling in an amazing recruiting class despite everything it has been through and the ridiculous and unjustified pounding the NCAA gave it. Griz football isn't over. There are too many dedicated, passionate fans who care and won't let that happen.

I love seeing the bandwagoners jump ship. Once you go through an 0-11 "The Perfect Season" like that Cats did, you'll learn who the true fans are. Those fans show up during a 5-6 letdown just the same as a 15-0 championship season. Griz football will be just fine.

Nice try, Jerry. But we're not fooled. We KNOW you're a dick. Get back into character.

Because, if you disagree with anything I wrote, then I would say you are one of "those" Griz fans who probably stayed home this season. Nut up, lady.

Not relevant for 30 years...

--Florida State was ranked as high as #4 last year and finished in the top 15 in the country. That is the definition of being relevant. (It also just signed the #1 recruiting class in the country today)
--Miami played in the 2003 National Championship Game (vs Ohio State) 10 seasons ago. And they have been down due to NCAA sanctions (not for lack of good recruiting classes).
--MSU has been ranked #1 in the country each of the last two seasons at times and has played in the National Quarterfinals and National Semifinals.
At some point on these message boards you may be able to make a valid point where people may even agree with you. However, if you want people to take you seriously you can't make such outrageous claims. By definition your posts make you look like a bandwagon, overreacting, leave at halftime, through good times and... good, through thick and...thick, fickle, and disloyal fan who claims to know something because of how long you have been around. However, the only thing you seem to demonstrate is that you must have been this same kind of fan for quite a long time.

Am I missing something? I thought the cats got bounced in the quarters by SHSU the last two years? If I'm wrong, someobdy please correct me.

possibly. OR...we ran into a team that was better than us. we lost to a very good shsu team last year. you guys did too. we lost to an even better shsu team this year. i hated it as much as the next cat fan but i have no problem saying that they were just better than us. we'll see about this next season...

I think recruiting is the most important thing coaches do. What's the old saying "It's the Jimmy's and Joe's not the X's and O's"?

I also think it is absolutely impossible to form any sort of judgement about a recruiting class on signing day. I wonder where Kroy Bierman or Colt Anderson rated on the day they signed (for example)? Come back in four years and we will know what we've got.

Having said that, there does (at least to me) seem to be a shortage of lineman in this class. I understand that the reason for this might be that the Griz are in pretty good shape on the lines right now, but it seems like this group set's the Griz up for a shortage of lineman a couple years down the road.

Griz football as we have known it in terms of success and support from both the University President and Greater Montana community is "Over" for the foreseeable future.

In that I mean until Royce Engstrom is no longer at the University of Montana we will have a shell of a program compared to what we have enjoyed for the last 20 years.

We need a new coach, but Im not sure what kind of talent UM is going to attract with Royce Engstrom's propensity to blame and fire others, coaches and AD for his own failings.

If this is what the OP meant by "Griz football is over as we know it" then I agree. UM will NEVER rise to the top under Royce Engstroms leadership in BOTH ACADEMICS AND SPORTS. He is not a leader and his "REBRANDING" of UM is a disaster and a sick joke of epic failure.

That said, I still support UM Football but have low expectations for the next 5-15 years until Engstroms departure.

Ah... my fault for not reading whole post.

I dont see ALOT to get excited about in this class though. I wouldnt say the world is ending but who the hell in their right mind wants to come to UM with Engstrom here. I wouldnt advise my kids to do so if they had the chance atm. Nothing like a hostile University president who has created a toxic enviroment in the entire athletic department and the Missoula/Montana community to really draw in the recruits.

My kids are grown up and have long since left college and many of you would have to put in a solid 20 year stint to attend as many games as I have since the 70's. I never said anything about jumping off a band wagon, I am still the same fan I have been for over 40 years. All I was doing was questioning the masses as to why they think this class of incredibly average recruits is "the best ever" or "very solid"? There is not one impact player that can come in and contribute right away unless somebody gets hurt. Last year Kidder and Holmes jumped in and never left. This year we got too many WR's still no QB and safety is still up in the air as far as I am concerned.

We have some drop downs and the percentages tell us they very rarely pan out, not to mention they have a quitter attitude and always think they are owed something because they played at an fbs school. There attitude and academics are why they are here in the first palce.

Bash away and name call me all you want, you guys are better at that then judging talent.
