We simply don't have good guard play right now...Worth a shot to go big-

Nothing else seems to work...

I hate to bring it up again, but the loss of Sean Watson is pretty glaring right now.

Congrats to Coach Huse and the cats. They won the game fair and square. The officiating was fine, the Griz could have gotten to the line more if they had executed the gameplan. It is a long season, I am still on board.

I disagree. If Rundles plays like he did last year the emergence of Stads and CET makes a Strait, Squet, Stads, Rundles and CET lineup very formidable and possibly the best in the conference.

You don't think Watson would make a difference??? are you kidding me??????

I am sure Watson's loss is a big part of this. However, what in the hell has happened to the majority of players that learned to move the ball around for the best shot, almost flawlessly game in and game out ? At least our defense is improved from last year. I really have no idea what Tinks is to do to get all the players to buy into the offense we need to run!!!

This team does not execute often enough. The biggest key for this team that is obvious to me, Cam Rundles has to find what he has somehow lost. Mentally he just is not the same player we expected this year. We still do not have anyone taking the ball consistently to the hole. Graves anyone?

Not what i meant, sorry. I think losing him does impact us, but I don't think Stads would quite fit in as a 2. He's like a 2.5. I'm saying if Cam plays they way he did, and we see this emergence of Ryan, then it just about completely combs over his loss.

ET is doing a good enough job I think. His passing ability and composure makes up for having less athleticism than graves.

Griz, superior in athletes and talent lost to a team that was much better organized and prepared 2nite. Bummer way to start the conference. This teams needs to work on reducing turnovers, taking junk 3 point shots and defense... wow...

Congrats cats, a strong preformance.

CET took the ball inside better than anyone of the guards. I think Tinks has to use a little tough love as it were. Krysko had a "my way or the highway" approach, and that is what it is going to take. You cannot ask the players to do what you want, you demand it. :twocents:

Hopefully it's a matter of the cats playing out of their mind right now. We caught them at the wrong time but it's a long season the griz will be fine.

GB, I agree. Maybe I am 100% off here. Does it start with Rundles? Does he reward the hard work of Spurgettis to even further prove a point? Does he give the bigs (Sharp, Qvale, Vanderjagt) more PT and less to the Guards (Rundles, Martin, CET). Hard for me to even suggest Martin and CET, but definitely think something has to be done with Rundles. Suggestions anyone?

2 things:

The Griz stand around so much its unbelievable. No movement at all.

What was wrong with Quale, did I miss something?

Hell, I am not the coach, but as others have said, Cam is not playing to his ability and needs to get back on track. I had no problem with CET or Martin tonight to be honest. The game has to flow from the inside out for the Griz to have success, not the other way around. The frustrating part is when they do it they have success, and built a lead that way. Scoring the ball inside created the open looks they knocked down from the perimeter. I hope they figure things about before the road trip. Cannot afford to start 0-3 even in they are all on the road.

It was one of those nights. In the 2nd half, the Cats could have drop kicked it from half court, and it would have gone in.

Griz turned the ball over only 9 times. That is pretty tough to reduce no matter how good a team is.

Griz played real good defense on just about everyone except Carlos Taylor and he was shooting like Sonya Rogers did for the Lady Griz. Heck, I say Griz may have played as well on defense as I have seen them all year, but Taylor was in a zone and no one was going to be able to stop him.

Now, if the Griz could work their offense better, getting it into Hasquet and Strait more in the second half, who knows. Hasquet made only two points in the second half. Way this season is going, how Hasquet goes, is how the Griz goes.

After Spurgetis hit his three at end of first half and Staudacher hit his pair of threes, I was thinking there is the support needed to go along with Hasquets offense. But, Hasquet went silent and the three pointers were just that, the Griz living and dieing by the three pointer.

Maybe Carlos Taylor made the Griz panic too much on offense.
Heck, if your making everything your putting up, it just has to put extra pressure on the opposing team to score, and there goes the patience.

Many good points. I agree Taylor made a lot of tough shots, some were basically lucky to be honest, but the Griz not playing disciplined on offense allowed the cats some early offense and more possesions than they should have gotten. The Griz dictated the pace the first half, and the cats did the second half. There were 3 occaisions where the Griz were on a roll, and every time someone would jack one up, twice it was Cam. Stads picked up his 3rd foul right after the second three and sat down. I think a couple guys thought they needed to keep shooting the 3 or something. Anyway, game is over, cats deserved to win, and time to get ready for NAU on Th and Sac on Sat.

The Griz have to exploit their strengths-shooting 3's and thinking that Rundles,Martin, and Stad can defend other perimeter players
effectively playing man is a joke!
Again-here is the solution play Q,Strait,Hasquet+ Sharp. Run a
tight zone. Go High-low 80% of the time on Offense. Forget the 3's-the Griz will beat no one shooting 3's. Kick ass if players do not run the O. Cam wants to score not play team ball so bench him.
We have to all-conference Big men and our primary offense is
setting Stad up for a 3???? :beer2:

The key to this team is Hasquet -- I watch almost every game, in shock, that they DON'T build any offense around him. Whatever he gets, he gets on his own - for the most part. He should be getting 20-25 shots a game. I'm pretty sure Brad Huse probably walked to the locker room tonight thinking, "I'm sure glad they didn't get the ball to Hasquet more". When is Tinkle going to demand that the ball goes thru him. For those of you that still think the ball needs to go in to Strait - I think you're sadly mistaken. Watch the 2nd half of this game again. He just can't score when he has a big guy on him. He can play a role, and Jordan will find him for plenty of bunnies, but he can't be the focus. It seems like a lot of big guys this year are almost laughing and inviting the ball into him so they can swat it back out of there.

Rundles has gone 180 degrees from last year. When he's at the point, the ball comes to a complete standstill. He puts up a ton of bad shots and turns the ball over way too much. He appears to have no idea that Hasquet is the key to his offense.

I have know idea why Martin has fallen out of favor. He was good enough to CARRY us through the BSC tourney as a FROSH but Tinks (and Larry) don't think he deserves to start anymore? Give me a break. He's a hell of a lot better for this offense than Cam is. People rag on his defense, but it is better than Cam's as well.

Watching this team is torture! They have no focus on offense. Tinks has no control over these guys and I constantly find myself wondering, "why do we have this combination on the floor?"

God, I hope it gets better.
