Griz/Cat Hoops game thread

The season is not lost...we will still be ok. someone has to step up though ..who will it be?

Can we hope it's Tinkle?

UM was out-rebounded 33-26. MSU was 19-26 from the line. UM was 9-11 from the line.

How the hell do we get out-rebounded with the size we have?

To answer my own question, most of the bigs rode the pine most of the game. We also quit on the play a lot. One shot and every one turned tail down the court before the ball was controlled. There were a few bobbles on rebounds where if our guys were paying attention we could have at least challenged for the rebound.

msu has out rebounded all but 2 opponents this season. The Griz had the rebounding edge at halftime, then decided to quit executing the gameplan.

I agree, about 5 minutes into the second half they just seemed lost out there, both players and coaches, like they were thinking, "well shoot, we're out of ideas, why not play some one on one?" I think that's where people's concern about Tinkle comes in, he just doesn't seem to grab their attention well enough...Or perhaps he tries to micro-manage too much. By that I mean I watched him more than once yelling at the players as they were trying to run a play and not just shouting at them once, but continually yelling directions at them. I can imagine that might cause problems with second guessing. Of course it is easy to be picky when being an arm-chair coach...

Huse has taught this team at MSU very, very well...

Right on...Huse is the difference between these two teams.

That wasn't meant to be disrespectful towards Tinkle, as I'm sure he is a fine coach, but Huse is a VERY VERY good.

Another embarrassing loss.

Rundles, Martin and Hasquet need to ride pine until they decide to play defense.

Tinkle needs to learn to coach defense. The Griz let MSU do whatever they wanted. No pressing, no trapping...just another lackluster defensive performance.

I agree, I would love to see more traps and press with the CET and Graves. As for not coaching defense, I completely disagree. I have been to practices and they work hard coaching defense. We must be better than we thought then, we came into the weekend leading the conference in defense ppg. Our biggest problem is offensive continuity and leadership.

Points per game indicates style of play.

Filed goal percentage defense indicates the best defensive team. MSU is 2nd in the conference and we are fourth.

Being outrebounded happens when the other team hustles more.

Offensive rebounding is pure effort also. Look who is #1.

Huse has his guys playing hard. Tinks doesn't

MSU plays hard with discipline for 40 minutes. Kind of like we did several years ago. I think they will do well.

Where is the offense? One guy dribbling and 4 guys standing around watching. No movement and then a bad shot.
Our guards got beat like a dog, then no backside help.

Emphasizing defense in practice is one thing. Coaching it during the game is quite another. Who is responsible for calling (or not calling) traps and presses other than the coach? There was no defensive pressure by the Griz, and even worse, very little defensive effort. Casey Durham should be trapped every time he touches the ball.

Casey Durham spent most of the second half on the bench.

Boy you really do not like Durham.

Casey played 29 minutes for the game. Only Carlos Taylor played more. Considering I know Durham did take a breather in the first half of at least 2-3 minutes, Mathematics tells me he played most of the first half and most of the second.

Now tell me how physical he was against us. When msu ,made the big push, he wasn't the one responsible. period, end of story. Has nothing to do with Durham. My comment was directed to the poster who said we should double team him every time he touches it. get real mslacat, if I didnt like him, trust me, I would say so. i just didn't buy how physical you were saying he was, and I was right. Read the freaking game thread, show me where I dogged Durham or any of the cats. period. :lame:

My favorite Durham moment was two years ago (I think) in Bozeman when Ellis pickpocketed him twice in a row for a nice swing in momentum that essentially sealed the game for the Griz. Was fun to sit next to the cat fans and hear the groaning...

That won't happen again, mslacat tells us Durham is a badass now.

Sounds like your dogging Casey to me!
