If it's the right move, they'll figure out the money. Remember, the answer to all your questions is money.
Sadly, but realistically ... truer words were never spoken.

Crime investigation: "Follow the money."

Shouldn’t be a problem for the Bizon if the “allusive” invite ever comes according to this dude who does what, again, for a living?

The new post-portal reality for FCS teams is this........ we will see our best players, who always believed while in high school that they were an FBS caliber player, leave our team for an FBS school.
The portal giveth and the portal taketh away. So far we are ahead.

6th place is ahead?

I’m not sure what to make of all this really. UM has spent so much building facilities etc. Especially for football. It’s sad as we truly do look to be getting left even farther behind.

If you look at the money that the networks are paying for tv rights for the power conferences those networks will want the top teams playing the top teams. The money games the FCS got will be no more. Maybe the power conf play one cupcake game with a group of 5 school.

The group of 5 won’t be paying 600k to an FCS school to play. So if the big pay money games go away what happens to those FCS teams that counted on them. Or they kept their athletics programs afloat! We could see programs shutter or be forced to make drastic changes.

I guess if we have no
Aspersions of being better and just flat can’t pay to be at the next level then why spend the money? Seriously? To
Complete for an even more dumbed down champion.
If the WAC looks to have there football programs become FBS, maybe it is wise for the Montana schools and the Dakota schools join the WAC.

I’d love somehow to see those schools in the MWC if it looses teams to PAC and BIG12.

I think just trying to stay the status quo right now could really hurt the Griz in the long run:

At least express in moving up. See what interest they receive.

I have also questioned the wisdom of spending so much money on FBS level facilities yet continue to remain FCS and members of the Big Sky Conference. What’s the point? Look at the facilities of members like Northern Colorado and Eastern Washington. Portland State is another dynamic member! Are we spending the money for roster top heavy Montana kids? Kids that would be much better off playing for Rocky or Western Montana. Maybe it’s easy to spend taxpayer and donor money on Division 1 type facilities when we are a Division 2/NAIA program in disguise? No direction, purpose or leadership.

Strangely, none of this move up conversation concerns me nearly as much as, the educational institution itself. How many kids will seek and can afford an education in the future? Does the U of M have the right programs? Sadly, college athletics has become nothing more than minor pro leagues. The BOR is going to have their hands full trying to navigate a rapidly evolving scenario. Not sure moving up is the issue demanding the most attention at this juncture.

Could the argument not be made that a move to the FBS level will have a positive impact on tuition, prestige, educational level and offerings at UM? That’s certainly been the case at many fcs-to-FBS level institutions.

Yes! Many parents and coaches also advise a young athlete to attend a school that competes at the highest level in a quality conference. Thus, enrollment is a factor.

How would this positively effect tuition? Genuinely asking.

It’s a very legitimate question, and the answer is simply that I’m a complete moron, and had intended on typing “enrollment”. Not at all certain how or why I typed tuition. Thanks for allowing me to clarify, Mikey.

I am currently helping youngest daughter navigate financial aid packages. She will earn some scholarship money - both academic and athletic. But, depending on where the athletic money comes from - her tuition bill may still be absolutely outrageous. Amazing how friggin expensive school is now. Thankful the others got their mom's athletic genes as they got generous athletic scholarships.

Perhaps that is why tuition was on your mind - I know it is on mine.

Do you do most everything for your kids? Is that how you help them learn how to make good decisions and be independent? And not be soft, as you like to say. Do you own her and live in her head too? If you're going to be a dick to big33, I guess I'll give you some of your own medicine.

 Scene from 'Young Guns':

"Tom O'Folliard : [dying] I can't believe it. You shot me! You really shot me!
John W. Poe : Take your medicine, son."

My mind wanders...

Huh?

Why would you just post this random crap aimed at me. I said nothing to you. small33 is a liar - which has nothing to do with you.

Seriously PR - why do you insist on being a dick on here?

BS33 is my friend, and you were being your normal dickish self to him. That's why. Stop being a dick to 33. He's not a liar. Also, you had me a couple other posters in your avatar for about a year. You were just trying to be an irritant, and a dick. I owe you about a 1,000 comments back. You are so self-unaware. People have been calling you out for being a dick more than they have me.

At what number does the count really not matter anymore and a dick is just a dick?
