I think the best chance to move up (I still want to) if/when this happens would be the WAC option to get our foot in the door. The WAC should meet with the Big Sky, MVFC, Southland ex. and take the best teams they can as right now they don't have a chance in hell of going FBS with the current teams. Could probably get NMSU and UTEP to join as well (both want to be out west) and could maybe snag SHSU and it wouldn't be a terrible Conference:

Montana, MSU, SDSU, NDSU, Idaho
UTEP, NMSU, Tarleton State, SHSU, SFA

Rough off the top of my head but there are many other FCS schools that could be considered. As mentioned we are putting effort into our facilities and overall act like we give a damn about athletics while the vast majority of the Conference doesn't. Plus I think it'd be cool to routinely play teams like Boise, Wyoming, Air Force ex. in OOC scheduling.

UM isn't improving facilities with the thought of moving anywhere. You are just trying to keep up with the other top tier FCS programs who already have those things. FCS, right now, is a split between the haves and the have nots. UM wants to stay one of the haves.

Doesn't the WAC already have a full conference, though? They aren't going to vote themselves all out of the conference to make room.

Doesn't the WAC already have a full conference, though? They aren't going to vote themselves all out of the conference to make room.

To be clear, I admittedly do not know much about the mechanics of making changes like that.

Their current Conference is made up of a hodgepodge of schools who couldn't find a home and their plans to bring back FCS Football fell apart and are now teaming up with the ASUN. They mentioned wanting to go back to FBS (the WAC has a clause to do that) but with the current lineup of teams that won't happen. Would take a bit of logistical shenanigans but if they want back in FBS as they claim I feel this would be a better idea then what they're doing now.

The WAC is all kind of F#@#DUP. They aren't "TAKING" anybody that isn't desperate to move down. They couldn't even talk NAU into joining up with their band of losers.

If you want to talk about teams breaking off and forming a new league, there is probably a better chance of splitting the BSC in some sort of fashion. In that reguard, the have nots in the MTW may want to join in with the haves of the BSC. In that senario, the have nots of the BSC could join in with the WAC or form their own league.

I believe there will be a restructuring done within the next 5 years.
