Fiddlers is at 5104 Southgate Drive. Take the Cabelas exit, but turn west and its back by the motels. It's just seconds off the freeway. I like it cause I hate Billings and am only passing through. I don't want to take the time to go downtown.
Lemme tell you guys a true tale. I was stuck in Billing for work one cold night. Staying at the BW downtown. The Griz were playing a road playoff game. Billings' own Johnny Edwards was at QB. I thought I'd find a place to watch the game from where I could walk, just in case I had several brews. I found this downtown "Sports Bar" on Broadway called Hooligans. They did not have the game on. They did not know about the game. I asked the barkeep about it and he put it on one crappy TV. A bunch of guys were watching an SEC game on the big TVs. At the first break in the action I boogied back to my room. I hated Billings. Until I found Fiddlers.
Good story but Hooligans didn't open until 2005 . . . Edwards was long gone!

Falstad Column: Gigantic TVs, downtown sports bar
March 20, 2004 11:00 pm
Jan Falstad HAVE YOU HEARD
The three partners who started the Montana Brewing Co. - Dan Konen, Mike Schmechel and Dru Cederberg - are planning a sports bar within dribbling distance of the Brew Pub.
Schmechel says the partnership has negotiated the basic lease for 3,300 square feet at 109 N. Broadway that used to house Casey's Golden Pheasant and most recently Chin Chin Japanese Cuisine.
The business will be called Hooligans Sports Bar.
"We're intending to put in a high-end sports bar, something we haven't seen in Billings, with a 20- by 30-foot video wall, plus a dozen 60-inch plasma screens," he says.
The cost of the electronics alone is about $175,000.
The Montana Brewing Company, nicknamed The Brew Pub, has a casino called Barleys to the south. Hooligans would be next door to Barleys.
In order to bring in new customers and not dilute the Brew Pub's clientele, Hooligans will have a separate kitchen, menu and staff. State and city approval to use the liquor license already has been granted, Schmechel says.
The menu will be similar to Moose's Saloon in Kalispell, he says.
There's a meeting Monday to hammer out the last details of the lease.
"It is designated as an historic building. We want to make sure the stairwell doesn't impact on the use of our space," he says.
