FCS Coaches Poll

how does ODU drop a slot. I realize putting up 70 against a cup cake doesnt count for much, but they have put up some other big scores

Hey fellas, I am guessing you enjoyed your win Saturday?

So the Cats and especially their OLine look fairly mediocre at best against a D2 team, barely squeak out a victory against a non-scholarship FCS team while again having their OLine and secondary exposed for what it is... and you come onto the Griz forum talking about cupcakes? Even for a trolling attempt this is pretty week. I give it a 3/10.

And Stand Up has a bengal as his avatar.

Just noticed the bengal... all I've got to say to that is :msugrad:

I'm done caring about any team but the Griz and the opponent in front of them. Conference play finally begins this week, and everyone has to show up to play every Saturday. No use beating our chests over a win vs. Liberty and USD any more than the Cats should beat their chests over their wins either. Just take care of our own business. I doubt our players give two s**ts about what the bobscats are doing in the polls, and if I were a coach, I would strongly suggest to our players that they ignore polls altogether and simply focus on the task at hand.

great post.
i'll go a step farther and say the bobcat players don't care where the bobcats are in the polls either. not sure why so many here are so concerned about it. if they're not as good as their ranking they won't be ranked there long....

SFA was the 23 rated team accoridng to the polls so if the bobcats want to go ahead and start thumping their chests for sliding by a barely ranked team in a run and gun contest then have at it. When do the cat man up and play somebody competitve? Is Denarious still ranked as the 9th best qb in the Big Sky?

You seem to have a problem with admitting things about our rivals. Now clearly a team rated #23 isn't the best team in the world, but saying they aren't competitive is a bit of a stretch. And by a bit, I mean a lot. This is the same team that led the nation in sacks last year, just saying. And Denarius is a good QB, it's ok to admit that too. Personally I think it's cool that MSU is ranked high. I for one want both programs to be successful. Of course I think MSU is ranked higher than they should be, but that shit happens, polls are pretty much worthless at the beginning of the year. Just remember though, we want them ranked when we play them, looks better for when we beat them.

Haven't we hung like 126 points to their 14 in the last two contests?

SFA must hate the Montana schools

Just so I understand, cat fans are not supposed to be happy about beating a ranked opponent because they were only ranked 23? No one can ever accuse me of supporting the cats, but you can sure as hell bet that if the Griz just beat the 23rd ranked team, we'd all be saying "see how good we are?"

That type of logic and common sense is not allowed here :rule:

Yeah, I see long threads full of such sentiments after the Griz win a game     Where the hell have you guys been? Montana fans bitch after every win.

It's worth pointing out also that the Big Sky Conference has pulled off four of the nine FCS upsets against FBS teams and yet three of the teams with with upset victories aren't ranked at all. No love for Cal Poly, Sac State or NAU.

True, but those "upsets" were against four of the worst teams in all of football: Idaho, Wyoming, CSU, and UNLV ...

I'd still put the top 8 of this conference against the top 8 of any other....think it would turn out OK for the big sky.

FYI...In last years FCS Poll Sam Houston State did not make the top 25 until 9/19/11. So it's anyone's to win.
Totally agree. WOW, that didn't hurt near as much as I thought it would.

So, I recall MSU getting a pretty good bounce after defeating a really bad Colorado team. Youngstown got a great bounce after defeating Pitt, which also belongs on that worst teams list. Bad FBS team or not, they still have 23 more scholarships than FCS and 99.9 percent of those athletes never seriously considered an FCS offer. The coaches are paid more, the staff's are larger, the venues are almost always larger and the games are almost always on the road. A win should get you into the top 25.

Actually, it was Colorado, not CSU, but they're even worse than CSU.

A couple comments:

- I can't argue with where the Griz are at. We have two wins against decent FCS schools, but fell to Appalachian St. whose crushing loss this weekend doesn't make our loss look all that great. I figured we would be 10th or 11th.

- NDSU is playing some damn good football right now. They deserve the #1 spot.

- Montana State, SHSU, & UNI are overrated. SHSU handily beat a terrible team & lost to Baylor, but they are ranked ahead of three top ten 3-0 schools? They should be in the 4-7 range. UNI is 1-2 - they should not be ranked where they are. Montana State finally had a credible win this weekend & should be in the top 4-6, but #2? C'mon!

- The Citadel beat GSU & crushed Appalachian St. There is no excuse for them to be ranked below Appalachian St.

- Why even rank Ivy League schools? Seems pointless.

PTGriz, my point is the cats should not be too boastfull about a poll number based on their current record. That record does not take into account the quality of opponent they are playing. Over the years certain cat have complained loudly when the Griz were highly ranked and had not played a strong team. I would certainly expect a number three team to roll a number 23 team especially at home. That was not the case for the cats. There were damn lucky to escape with a win again at home.
Denarious McGhee is a better than average FCS QB although his stats this year are not really up to that. Football is a team sport and I think the emphasis on how great DM is by the athletic department and the fans does nto recognize the rest of the team. I do not think a booster commercial all about McGhee is appropriate.
This year's Big Sky Conference Football Cupcake Trophy should go to....the msu bobcats.

I find this very amusing. Let scat fans beat their chest all they want, unfortunately for them they cannot avoid their trip here. From what I've seen, Griz are going to roll them big time........again. They are weak up front on both sides of the ball, while we are strong. We've already seen how Delirious handles the cold & hostile environment, not to mention having a physical, hard-hitting D to deal with. Even in this "down" year for the Griz, it's obvious the horses are on this side of the divide. Seeing all of the youth on this team playing, & playing well-sure looks like the future is looking like more of the same as well. You are #2 scats! You've always been #2, & you always will. It's sure going to be funny to watch them pout with their tails between their legs on the way back to bozone.......again. sigh
