FCS Coaches Poll

True, but those "upsets" were against four of the worst teams in all of football: Idaho, Wyoming, CSU, and UNLV ...

Actually, it was Colorado, not CSU, but they're even worse than CSU.

My bad, that was NDSU that beat CSU. Either way, both Colorado teams blow

It's worth pointing out also that the Big Sky Conference has pulled off four of the nine FCS upsets against FBS teams and yet three of the teams with with upset victories aren't ranked at all. No love for Cal Poly, Sac State or NAU.

I'd still put the top 8 of this conference against the top 8 of any other....think it would turn out OK for the big sky.

I'd agree with that

Just so I understand, cat fans are not supposed to be happy about beating a ranked opponent because they were only ranked 23? No one can ever accuse me of supporting the cats, but you can sure as hell bet that if the Griz just beat the 23rd ranked team, we'd all be saying "see how good we are?"

Hell, a week ago fizz fans were saying "see how good we are" after losing

Remember the "quality loss" thread

A couple comments:

- I can't argue with where the Griz are at. We have two wins against decent FCS schools, but fell to Appalachian St. whose crushing loss this weekend doesn't make our loss look all that great. I figured we would be 10th or 11th.

- NDSU is playing some damn good football right now. They deserve the #1 spot.

- Montana State, SHSU, & UNI are overrated. SHSU handily beat a terrible team & lost to Baylor, but they are ranked ahead of three top ten 3-0 schools? They should be in the 4-7 range. UNI is 1-2 - they should not be ranked where they are. Montana State finally had a credible win this weekend & should be in the top 4-6, but #2? C'mon!

- The Citadel beat GSU & crushed Appalachian St. There is no excuse for them to be ranked below Appalachian St.

- Why even rank Ivy League schools? Seems pointless.

Msu should be in the top 4-6, why exactly?

Holy balls! The number 2 ranked msu bobcats barely survived SFA which was barely in the top 25 at 23. Now that is a real accomplishement and a testamony to the real excellence that is bobcat football. This all happened at home in front of 20,000 or so friendly bobcat fans. Get real bobcats, you still haven't played against a tough team.

slow down there, cowboy - a team's place in the polls this time of year isn't necessarily a good measure of how that team really is. maybe sfa has a team that is around 25th in the nation, and maybe they are closer to 5th. maybe the bobs are really the number 2 team, and... ok, they aren't. the polls aren't very accurate yet, but they obviously have that one more than wrong.

wow....the bobcats struggle against an unranked team and move up a spot. They are in for a bit of an awakening before to long.

On a related note, how is it that Montana is ranked ahead of Citadel and App State?
because a team ranked 23 that beats a team where app st was NEVER moves into the top ten...and when a team in the spot of app state loses to the #23 team, they ALWAYS fall 6 spots or more.......am i right?

SFA was the 23 rated team accoridng to the polls so if the bobcats want to go ahead and start thumping their chests for sliding by a barely ranked team in a run and gun contest then have at it. When do the cat man up and play somebody competitve? Is Denarious still ranked as the 9th best qb in the Big Sky?

You seem to have a problem with admitting things about our rivals. Now clearly a team rated #23 isn't the best team in the world, but saying they aren't competitive is a bit of a stretch. And by a bit, I mean a lot. This is the same team that led the nation in sacks last year, just saying. And Denarius is a good QB, it's ok to admit that too. Personally I think it's cool that MSU is ranked high. I for one want both programs to be successful. Of course I think MSU is ranked higher than they should be, but that shit happens, polls are pretty much worthless at the beginning of the year. Just remember though, we want them ranked when we play them, looks better for when we beat them.

I could not agree more. Football fans know that polls are polls. The only week they mean anything is the week right after the Brawl of the Wild. Trust me, Bobcat fans are aware of the schedule. Many are nervous about the conference schedule. If Griz fans aren't, well, I guess that's your business, but this conference has a few heavy hitters in it. Many Cat fans were surprised by the win this Saturday. It will go to a few heads, but those are not the sort with whom I consort. Personally, I love it when both schools win. I want nothing more than to see two undefeated teams having at each other in late November. My preseason pick still stands...there will be no undefeated team in the BSC. There will be no outright winner of the BSC crown.

To go along with this, most of the friends I have at MSU thought they would lose against SFA. Most still think they will lose to UM. I'm not really sure where this idea that MSU fans are celebrating their poll ranking is coming from.

Exactly. The shit will be sorted out. Everyone should know by now that polls don't mean much at this time of year. By the end of the year things will look different.

celebrating their poll ranking is coming from.[/quote]
I know a lot of Wal Mart cat fans who swear up and down that they are the best team in the land. Much like same type of people who say the same shit about the griz. Same thing goes with students. Most do not know much about football...only to be loud when the other team has the ball and quiet when your team has possession. Don't put much stock into what they think.

Meh. Every fan base has fans like that. We do over here as well, I just ignore those people, it's pretty obvious they don't know what they're talking about.

Why do you insist on trying to sham people on here, You've already admitted to being a kitten alum and just about every post you've ever made proves your true colors > piss yellow & baby blue

By showing my true colors do you mean making unbiased posts? Because yes, I do that. I call it like I see it. Besides, I'm not the only MSU alum on here if I remember correctly.

I'll wait for you to respond to me with facts about how I'm a biased poster. Until then, how about we get this thread back on topic, huh?

Actually, 36-10 :thumb:

My whole point in my posts was to say the cats really should not be too boisterous about being rated number 2 in the nation because the poll does not consider difficulty of schedule. In saying that, I am saying the polls are meaningless as are the reankings. In fact, I feel this way until well into the playoffs. Last years poll going into the final regular season game clearly indicates the polls are not even close to being accurate.
However, if statistics on player performance are used, bobcat QB Denarius McGhee has clearly failed to live up to expectations and his play in two games against the Griz re enforces this.

Well said. I believe that most cat fans would agree that they are nowhere near the number two team in the nation right now. A team that is so average (at best) in the trenches definitely does not deserve that ranking. They have done nothing to show me that they are a better team than any of the ten teams behind them. By the end of the season things will be more accurate and at least we get a TRUE champion at our level!!!
