Although I don't believe any of the 4 left behind has an affinity nor propensity to salvage the pac, I can see the two Ivy Plus schools trying to swipe the two non-university schools from the MWC, the two Navada Schools and UC Davis in order to somehow make it appear their administration is more than egotistical stuffed shirts riding their inflated sense of self-worth personas...

Very few people choose to associate with those type individuals of their own volition.

Why would any MWC school that would have to pay a $30 million plus exit fee move to a conference with no TV deal?

My thoughts exactly, but both Oregon and Washington left for half shares of the Big 10 revenue. Does anyone realize what the travel expense is going to do to their budgets? That's one of the reasons the SEC is maintaining their regional footprint.

One of the best analogies one can make is why an individual with an EdD leaves a public school position to take that tremendous cut in pay to become a college professor. Prestige? Many not wise fiscal moves have transpired over the last couple of years. I don't think they're finished chasing television money at the expense of their fan base and game day atmosphere.

You do realize that the half shares, which increase and grow to full shares, are still more than what the PAC12 was going to have as full shares with the proposed Apple deal.

True. That guaranteed amount still puts them at an obvious recruiting disadvantage and the expenses just blew the roof off those stadiums. Wonder how long they'll enjoy playing a football game at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time or start at 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. for home games? That left coast arrogance came back to bite the pac in the ass in more ways than one. Sit on your ass and do nothing while the midwest administrators cut new contracts simply because "We're the Pac!" How many casual fans are going to fly to the away games?

At least there's the regional conferences--SEC, Sun Belt, MWC. MMuch better administrators.

When my younger brother was born in Culbertson in the late 50's, Mike, then a US Senator and traveling in eastern MT, stopped at the hospital to see my dad and mom. Spanky, I bet my dad and your uncle knew each other. My dad was in a frat too. I will have to look through some old annuals and figure out which one. One of my dad's best friends was Bill Lazetich of Anaconda. Bill used to take my dad to Anaconda on some holidays, when my dad couldn't get home to northeastern MT.

Bill Lazetich was a great football player as was his brother Milan. Bill’s son Pete Lazetich was also an outstanding player. Bill and his wife, Daisy were members of our church in Billings. Bill Lazetich ranks among the highest as a football player in the history of UM athletics.

Pete was once a very good friend. A great personality. We still keep in touch on occasion. We have lots of overlaps.

There has been talk, behind the scenes, about what may happen with D1 football when the P4 group separates from the NCAA. That process seems to have picked up speed in that last few weeks. The talk has centered around how to consolidate what is now FBS with what is now FCS. My guess is that it will be some sort of negotiated compromise and that we will all be in the new D1 for NCAA football and that there will be a D1 playoff championship established. What will happen with Bowl games, I am not really sure. However, Bowl games have been watered down so much in the last 30 years that they don't really have much purpose, other than advertising and money. I suppose they could remain as a secondary sort of thing, in which case they would likely die out or be greatly diminished.

I'm not sure what might happen with P4's other sports, but see no reason that they wouldn't stay NCAA D1.

The talk was not about anybody dropping down or anybody moving up. The talk was about reorganization and developing a new D1, with new rules and no subdivisions. Of course, schools would have the option of dropping to D11 if they wanted. There might be some marginal FCS schools who would choose that. Most FCS schools would look at the new requirements for D1 and choose to stay. Some of the current FBS/G5 schools would be offended, but most would welcome a more sustainable budget model and an expanded field of opponents. These ideas have been floated and informally talked about for several years now. It hasn't made it to any formal proposals yet, but I think it soon will. Things seem to be moving faster now.

The proverbial snowball starting near the mountain top rolling downhill, gaining speed and size as it rolls. Those in the way are in for a rude awakening. The Big Ten wanted to act faster that the Big 12. This process took about one week. A lot of snowballs got rolling in that week. There will be collateral damage before it's all over.
