Honestly, who is?

The thing that makes most sense for Cal and Stanford is to go independent and do what they want. They have the money. Those two schools specifically are in this for more than just sport success so if I were them Independence would look very appealing.

Mike Mansfield was my mom's favorite professor, and she babysat for his daughter, Margaret, for a couple years. Wish I might have met him, but I never did.

Does call have the finances to go independent?

I guess I’m just assuming but I would assume so.

That process seems to have picked up speed in that last few weeks. The talk has centered around how to consolidate what is now FBS with what is now FCS. My guess is that it will be some sort of negotiated compromise and that we will all be in the new D1 for NCAA football and that there will be a D1 playoff championship established. What will happen with Bowl games, I am not really sure. However, Bowl games have been watered down so much in the last 30 years that they don't really have much purpose, other than advertising and money. I suppose they could remain as a secondary sort of thing, in which case they would likely die out or be greatly diminished.
I'm not sure what might happen with P4's other sports, but see no reason that they wouldn't stay NCAA D1.
Things are starting to happen faster than I thought they would. :thumb:

And yet UM athletics is no where close to having the ability to fund a transition to FBS.

True, on the surface. You haven’t considered private transition funding?

You really think they have untapped private funding sources that can account for the amount required?

So you believe there is over $10 million dollars in untapped private money available? And then there are sources they can tap annually to maintain?
