Eric Sanders New DC

107/126 for rushing defense and 105/126 for passing defense last season. I'm sorry but that doesn't instill confidence. I am prepared to be surprised but not setting my bar very high, I'm afraid.
Be careful what you say, the BH superfan, and "we are BFFs squad" will go Old Yeller rabid on you.

I pointed that out several times last season and had to run, duck and dodge BH minions shade like I was in a zombie movie.

Last year's defense was a straight up national embarrassment. The offense HAD to overperform and pull out wins because that defense was all but three of four spots from the worst in the nation. Save the "but the interceptions" argument.

I was and still am a big fan of Bobby Hauck, but I am the first to admit our defense was atrocious last year. Those national rankings prove that as well. I have no issue whatsoever with the shake up on defense. It’s the one part of this program that needs a reset.

Those numbers are for Eric Sanders/Eastern Washington's defense last year. Not Bobby's.

I didn't like Hauck for a lot of reasons the first time around. Mostly personal. I was acquainted with him and our personalities clashed. He seemed to mellow out a lot while he was gone. I liked him the second time around, losses and all. He seemed to be more personable. Which was surprising for me. But yeah, my comments about the defense this year were not embraced well, and I still stand by them.

I was initially upset over Bobby leaving, but I get it. We all get to that time in life where we want to kick back a little and enjoy life, the kids, grandkids, and frankly being the HMFIC gets really old. I couldn't imagine being a Head Coach in any college sport nowadays. It's not just football, it's all of them. I have seen crazy NIL deals for wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics... No thanks. I wouldn't want to deal with it either, and I do think that was probably a big part of why he decided to "retire". I mean he's still too young and still has that fire in him, so it would be silly to think that he wasn't going to go back to coaching, I don't think any of us expected it to be a week later.

I am still gonna enjoy watching the bucks run all over Illinois though.

It took them two months to announce the OL coach. Still haven’t announced our RB coach. Maybe summer for these coaches..

I don't agree with your assessment of the D last season. Some stats: 2d in conference in conference only and overall defense against rush. Behind the Cats. 120/140 yards. In scoring D, 2d in conference overall and 3d in conf only. Basically last in pass D in yards giving up, but 30 yards better was about 4th place. 1st in conf in interceptions; 2d in sacks. Interceptions were 2d in the nation. Only 58.3% of opponents' passes were completed, essentially tied for best in the conf with 2 other teams. Cats had more passes thrown against them, but allowed 62.3% completion rate. Every conf team gave up about 7.5 yards per pass or per completion (not sure which), except Cats were down at 5.8. Griz gave up 48 more passing yards per game, than the Cats did.

No. 1 in conf in Red Zone D. Mediocre in Total D, but top half of conference.

Don't know how you can say the D was atrocious. That's just not true.

Well Bobby's 3-3-5 certainly failed in Bozeman on Dec. 20, the most important game of the year, 48-23, a MSU blowout that sent us home and MSU onward to the NC game. And no, our 3-3-5 could not stop the MSU running game, 240 yards, 7.1 yards per carry. You don't have to be Don Read, Mike.Leach or Nick Saban to know that if your D gives up over 200 yards of rushing and over 7 ypc, the scoreboard is very likely not your team's friend : ( !!!

Mike Leach’s defenses were generally terrible, but his offenses were elite so that is a bad example for knowing elite defense.

Well, it certainly helped win 13 other games. You need to look at the whole season and big picture.

The Griz are the best at hiring "over the hill" or "never were" coaches and will continue to do so because they come "cheap".

THE 2012 Issues and book still haunt the university by a watch group in the community. Remember the public meeting when he was rehired to address those issues.
Because the book detailed a culture where "football was king" to a fault, any new coaching search is viewed through a lens of character and compliance.
Vetting: The university now conducts exhaustive background checks that go far beyond win-loss records.
The "Hauck Factor": Bobby Hauck’s return in 2018 was controversial precisely because he was the coach during the lead-up to the incidents Krakauer documented. His second tenure has been defined by a "zero-tolerance" public stance, setting a high bar

It wasn't the scheme that failed, it was the coaches not getting the right personnel to execute the scheme and the execution of the scheme that failed.

Jimmys and Joes will always do better than Xs and Os

Pease agrees with you.

He told me this week "we need to score more this year than we ever have, but we have the QB to do it"

I was just with him. Agrees about the QB and the GRIZ will score more this year than they ever have. He is excited about our QB. He is optimistic about the D also. Showed him your need statement and he said misunderstanding
