Tough to be excited. He comes from D2 and hasn't had much success. Idc what anyone says if he was a good hc within 15 years he would of at least been to a NC once... and been consistently in the playoffs. Good coaches know how to win.. especiallt after 15 years. Might as well of hired a high school coach.
He took a d2 program that was usually horrible (occasionally mediocre) and turned it into a very respectable program that had actual playoff hopes each year.
Lets look at how they were before Stitt.
Playoff appearances in the past 50 years (not counting Stitt's years):
0
Above .500 seasons in the past 50 years (not counting Stitt's years):
4 (1975, 1976, 1979, 1991)
The 5 years before Stitt? A combined record of
13-41.
Last year before Stitt? They were 1-9 with 9 straight losses to finish the season. The combined score of those 9 straight losses?
418-54
Since Stitt was hired they've been to the playoffs 3 times (and to two "Bowls" it looks like) and had 13 out of 15 years above .500 He basically turned that program around from awful to pretty damn good and did so with a very exciting style of offense & a major recruiting hurdle in the form of academic requirements.
Yes I get that you wanted someone else. Hauck then Pease were my top two choices, but I'm not disappointed it ended up being Stitt. If big time FBS coaches are impressed with him he must be doing something right. Only worry I have is recruiting right now, but since he's obviously keeping some of the assistants who are very good recruiters we'll probably be fine there too
Looking forward to seeing his exciting, high powered offense in person. That combined with a pretty good D could make for some great years for the Griz!
