Last 5 games, Griz have scored 59, 48, 13, 42 and 39. Their D has given up 3, 7, 7, 7, 7. These include 3 FCS, 1 FBS and 1 D-II. Griz are 5-0.
Last 5 games Eagles have scored 20, 35 (20 in regulation), 63, 62 and 50. Their D has given up 42, 33, 14, 56, 21. These include 3FCS, 1 FBS and 1 D-II. EWU is 4-1 in those games.
I'm including ALL points as scored against the defense, and all points scored as "offensive" scores, even though we know that's not exactly true, but is representative of defensive and special teams capabilities (plus I'm too lazy to go sifting through each box score to see what the offense actually did).
There are two common opponents...CWU and WIU. Both are 2-0 against those opponents. Griz beat CWU 59-3 in the spring, EWU beat them 63-14 this fall. Griz beat WIU 42-7 while EWU won in a shootout 62-56.
Griz "offense" has averaged 40.2 PPG, while EWU has averaged 46 (43 in regulation). UM D gives up an average of 6.2 PPG, while EWU's gives up 33.2 PPG.
The delta between the Griz/EWU offenses is much, MUCH smaller than the delta between the defensive performances. Take that for what it's worth, but I like our chances.
