Here's the thing. Bob ain't going anywhere this offseason. You might as well get to your safe spaces, cry it out, and come back in August. That's reality, deal with it.
Replacing Bob right now would be the most moronically stupid thing the AD could do. You're going to be paying a buyout (at the cost to the U and the taxpayers). You're going to set the program development back at least two more years (which means more losses). And who are you going to get to come coach a program knowing that you can be fired after two years at an FCS school because you don't win a national championship in your first or second year. Coaches want job security for themselves and their assistants, so some fans on here and the Twitter that insist that the coaching staffs aren't trying, etc are more moronically stupid.
That said, I was having this conversation earlier with some -very- prominent eGriz posters.. when is the last time we had a -good- quarterback that was playing within the system he was suited for? The answer? Probably Jordy in 2011.. anyone else notice how the team has struggled a bit since then? I wonder if there's a correlation there.. you know, changing coaches, changing philosophies, player development, etc. That's what happens when you've had four coaches since 2009.
How about we see how this one shakes out before we start firing coaches and actually let a coach get his players and staff in here and see if we can start winning consistently. We're on year two of this offense with quite a few players recruited for a different philosophy, and year one of a defense that also changed how it went about business.
I'll close with this.. Craig Bohl was 4-8 his first year at Wyoming, the fan base saw progress. Craig Bohl was 2-10 his second year at Wyoming and the pinheads of the fanbase (like quite a few on this message board) thought we should fire Bohl, fire Vigen, fire the AD, clean house, etc. Wyoming in year three is one win from hosting the Mountain West title game, two wins away from being Mountain West champions.
Come at me.

Wyoming was a dumpster fire. Bohl took over a Ford Pinto and has made it a Honda Accord.
Stitt took over a luxury vehicle and has it idling in the parking lot. Plus Bohl won more than one playoff game in his career before getting a higher-paying job.

Just because the Griz beat the s--t out of the Cats a couple of years in a row before Stitt got here, which he did the next year too, doesn't mean they were a luxury vehicle. The vehicle Stitt took over missed the playoffs twice in four years, and had some pretty big dents and a broken bumper. I thought MSU fans were used to recognizing vehicles like that.

Really? What FCS job east of the Mississippi and north of Texas comes close to what UM has in terms of facilities, and fanbase, and community involvement? If UM isn't an FCS luxury vehicle for the west, please tell me who is? EWU and their joke academics and gimmick field? Bozeman and their little brother act?
Everybody knew Mick was a place-holder, yet his teams played with more discipline and heart than anything I've seen from a Bob Stitt team. Thrown in he's not well-liked in the Adams' Center athletic offices and he's a shameless self-promoter, and I just don't see it working for him in Missoula. He'll have next year, of course, but 7-4 isn't going to cut it for much longer with the money boosters are pouring into the program in recent years. Add in that a not-so-small faction of those major boosters can't stand the guy, even after last season, and it's frankly a bit of a mess at this point.
None of that had anything to do with the total regression and disarray this team showed as the season progressed. Any observer could see this team was not well coached. Late in the season opponent coordinators did not have a difficult time developing successful game plans against both the offense and defense. Yeah, it was probably Engstrom at the root of the lousy play calling, defense confusion and stupid penalties.George Ferguson said:I can tell you what just about EVERY single FCS team you asked about didn't have when Stitt took over. Two years of a three-year, self-imposed NCAA probation that included the loss of 12 FULL scholarships and two graduate assistants. Not to mention, every rival coach of the Griz telling recruits about the Jon Krakauer book and about a billion other reasons why they shouldn't go to Montana. They also don't have Royce Engstrom.NorthwestFresh said:Really? The half season collapse, the loss to the Cats? Hearsay?MrTitleist said:Hey look, more vague hearsay!
Now, add to your list of excuses the fact that every rival coach now gets to also add in a mid-season collapse, a team with "no fire" (according to the coach in his public flailings), bizarrely repetitious plays, "chaos" on the defense, a 0.325 Conference Record with an NFL caliber QB, and a loss to what you brazenly and publicly called the "worst team in the conference" playing freshmen and sophmores, and a Quarterback who doesn't even need to shave yet and a first-year coach with NAIA assistants, not even close to the mighty coaching horsepower of our DII staff.George Ferguson said:I can tell you what just about EVERY single FCS team you asked about didn't have when Stitt took over. When have you had a record that good under Stitt? That would be a step up. Pretty sure you've lost 5 games both years under Stitt.
