This is a very underrated post. :thumb:

Thank you for bringing this post to my attention. I was gonna breeze right over it thinking it was the same blah blah blah as all the others. Nothing against everyone else’s success at the U but being a 2 time drop out myself, I’ve no desire to read everyone else’s success stories. I’d say this is post of the year material. Do we still do that?

I was not accepted to UM law school, so had to go to Stanford Law School. Got accepted at every school I applied to, but one.

That's absolutely ridiculous if you're telling the truth. I didn't apply to UM law school. Had to go see about a girl. She applied to Stanford, Michigan, UCLA, and USC in her field, but I had to get into one of those as well. We both went 3/4. One got rejected by Stanford, the other got rejected by Michigan. I won't tell which is which, but let's just say she can win any argument with me by playing a certain card, and I'm not bitter at all . . .

Wow. Looks like even way back then UM was just getting in its own way with student marketing. :o :o

Born and raised a Griz fan in Cat country. I was taught "Up With Montana" along with "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star" and "Jesus Loves Me." My grandmother and a great-aunt were UM (MU, I believe, in their day) attendees; my mother was the first person in her family to graduate college, MSU at that time. I graduated in 1968. Never really considered going elsewhere. Returned to Missoula for my spouse to go to graduate school in the mid-70s. Left briefly, but came back to ZooTown to stay in 1983. Season ticket holders since 1986. Guess I will be at WaGriz every fall, so long as I can drag my fat ass into the stadium.

Back then, UM required 2 quarters of accounting to go to law school. I had none. Dartmouth didn't offer accounting. I later took accounting at Stanford Business School. Was lucky to get out of there alive.

Grew up in the Flathead a Griz fan & loved Griz B-ball. Watched the game in 1974 when UCLA beat the Griz by 3. Great game, great teams! Moved to Bozeman, graduated from MSU with a bs in finance & minors in management, marketing & accounting - my electives were all for the minors. Passed out cold before the first quarter was over in the first Cat football game I attended, which was good because they were really, really bad. The next year they won the Natty & I lived on a dorm floor with some from that team. Great times, crazy. Still live in Bozeman & love it here. Love Missoula too, all of Montana actually. Root for the Griz when they're not playing the Cats, hoping one of them can take down the NDSU/SDSU blockade......

My other daughter is being recruited to Stanford for basketball, but I am hoping she chooses UM. It’s a tough decision for her having played for Robin Selvig in the past. We’ll see what happens. Other son is a playing football here as a junior, and less than thrilled with the recent coaching changes.

So nicely played Raider. Thanks so much.

Did’nt go to UM, probably would have been a good idea but I had strange ideas about the need to earn a living. Grew up in Missoula until 18% interest rates d and loads of liberal arts grads (have hammer will work cheap) drovpe my union construction father and family out of state. Went to a community college the private university where I could work days and go to school at night. Kind of a lark really but turned out I was better at knowledge labor than manual labor.

Before internet days I subscribed to the missoulian and eagerly awaited it arriving at my home in the puget sound area (part of the early ‘80s Montana diasporia to puget sound) so I could check the help wanted ads and beloved griz teams (back the it only took 2 days to mail something, not 3 weeks like today)

Eventually help wanted ads paid off, I moved back to Missoula and was lucky to pay several thousand dollars i tuition for my son to spend several years at UM.

I can vouch for the accounting requirement. I took the two quarters of accounting while spending six years as an undergrad at UM, and it has been invaluable, though I left for l.s. Season ticket holder since ‘94 and have missed about 10 home games since then. I think being an alum adds an important perspective, especially with football, because the “Team of the Eighties” was a far cry from what is now expected.

That’s probably a requirement that should still be in place the more I think about it. I’d say about 70% of disciplinary actions I see from the Bar stem from some sort of client trust accounting issues. Where did you end up getting your ticket, Goat?

Forestry Major Computer Science minor, Masters in Broadfield science and secondary education.
Took upper level math for fun too.
First concert, Johnny Cash in rhe Fieldhouse.

A basic understanding of accounting principles has been critical to a lot of my litigation work. I did not apply to any CA law schools, mostly because I was concerned about adjusting to life in a real city. Rejected by Michigan, ended up at Cornell, but I rarely bring up where I attended. Ithaca is a lot like Missoula, though without real mountains but with cool waterfalls and gorges. The only genuine sports enthusiasm for the Big Red was for hockey. Joe Nieuwendyk played when I was there. Don Read came to UM while I was gone, so it was a nice change for UM football when I returned home.

I have been up a while this morning so maybe I am reading this wrong.
"Two kids, ages 15&13 that both graduated from UM."
How old were your kids when they started UM to both have graduated by ages15 and 13? Is your son named Sheldon?
