DeNarius, Rory, and what might have been...

Let's break down the "Irish lad" thing. Here are the options:

1. PR is incredibly uninformed about our nation's history and literally did assume that the fact that said QB had an Irish last name meant that he was of Irish ancestory.

2. PR was being ironic and calling him Irish specifically because he knew he wasn't Irish ... which is just kind of weird. Is it "racist?" I would say no. It's not saying that any race is inferior or superior. It's just kind of weird and definitely a bit crass (as it's kind of like saying, "Ha, ha, ha, your ancestors were slaves and so you have an Irish name even though you're not Irish."). If it was being ironic funny in a friendly way, I could see it being kind of a good inside joke, but I'm pretty sure it's not the kind of thing most people would say about a person that's not a close friend.

I will give you "weird," for sure.

But I'm afraid your attempt to break it down, however noble, will be far too subtle for this crowd.

You PC police can stick it. No need to break it down.

The Irish Lad played kick ass and was the difference in the game. (racist?)
Cats defense crowded the box stuffing our run game. (sexist?)
Result was the bad guys won. (judgemental?)

There you have it, I must be a racist, sexist, judgmental Griz fan. So bite me.

Anyone who refers to Denarius as an "Irish lad" is racist. Live with it, Racist.

He may be a Cat, but he's an American who loves football, is good at it, and is getting a great education. It's the American Way.

Christ! "Yo mus bee fum da Soud, tha good ol whaaa trasssh, huttin sqrls & possms fo sumthin to eaat tonaht."

Live with it.

Good lord people, settle down and take a joke for shit's sake. And when did "Irish" become a race anyway?

Lighten up Grizzoola! No question, De Narius is an excellent qb and team leader. Without him, state college is still a good team, but not outstanding. We all know he isn't Irish and it shouldn't be taken that the comments are racist.

If the Irish lad plays for both teams, the Griz win the game.
You're a racist old man

Not racist at all. You obviously don't even know what racism is. You are a dumbass. Always have been on the board; always will be.

It's clearly the most racist and offensive thing I've ever seen. You are pathetic.

Ever? Wow, you don't get out much do you.

David2/Grizoola,
It's always hard to tell if you are just another Alpha pen name posting nonsense, or if you really are that limited mentally. Either way, it is always good to be on the opposite side of your opinion.
I like the Irish Lad. Though if you say so, I must be a racist. I will live with it. Carry on.

I get so damned tired of the race card being thrown around these days to explain anything that is not agreed with. There is nothing racist about calling a player with an obvious Irish name, Irish. To the posters trying to make this a racist thing, take a reality pill and get a clue about life.

How do you know he doesn't have Irish ancestry? Yes, many slaves took the names of their owners. But, many others took their names from great grandpappies who in fact fathered them. Thomas Jefferson comes to mind. Those descendants deserve their rightful heritage. I do not know if this is true of Denarius, but the point is made.

Nobody on here knows that one theme in William Faulkner's novels about the Deep South, where Faulkner grew up, is that many black descendants had a more direct bloodline to their white ancestor than the white descendants, and therefore had a more legal right to a property than the white descendants. Faulkner doesn't belabor this, but it is one of his themes.

"The Irish lad" is not funny. It's not a joke. Just drop it. Lighten up? I'm just telling the truth.
