Delirious McGoo -- Medical Redshirt?

I seem to remember several college players over the years that got 6 years.
I can only think of a few two if which had grey shirts in Andy Larson and Dan Moore and Jimmy Wilson actually having seven with an extremely rare situation though he only played for five of them. Please enlighten us on the several others you know of

As far as the topic of this thread are we really elementary school kids? Delirious McGoo? Seriously?

you are so unsure of the answer to your question that you have to ask?

sheesh.

I do have some experience in the medical (hardship) question since my son did redshirt his TRUE freshman year, then tore his ACL in the EWU/Griz game in 2011, his redshirt Freshman year. I thought he would automatically get a 6th year since he'd only played 3 games or less, or less than 30% of the year. The NCAA bylaws states a player can only apply for a 6th year of eligibility at the end of his/her 5th year and must show "2" years of injury to meet this hardship (medical waiver). If this was the case, half the Eastern "O" line could apply for a 6th year, which they can not!! McGee DOES NOT qualify under this criteria even if he doesn't play one more down this year. Hope that clears it up.

Then how was Hilliard able to get an extra year of eligibility after he tore his Achilles?
I thought he tore it in fall camp before the season started.

Where do the bylaws say that a player must show two years of injury to get the medical redshirt? Just curious.

Hilliard used his redshirt year during the year he got hurt. He had played as a true frosh. He did not grey shirt. He didn't have to apply for a medical redshirt. He was hurt in pre-season practice.

Jimmy Willson got a special extra year, so he played 4 in 6 years. He had played as a true frosh.

Craig Ochs received a medical redshirt. He played 2 full years and got a concussion in the 3rd game (I believe) of his junior year at Colo. Didn't play the rest of the season. Then played 2 full years at UM. He may have played as a true frosh, so may have needed a medical redshirt to "erase" the 3 games he'd played in as a junior at Colo.

Youre right about grey shirt....ill edit.

You are right that there was speculation that he might follow Glenn to Wyo. I was also right about everything else in the post too. Ha-ha.

Dan Moore did not get 6 years. He lost his freshman year due to academic non qualifier. He came in his first year as a sophomore even though he did not redshirt or play. He made enough academic progress to get his 4th year of eligibility back. same with van cooper.

I just heard from a big time Cat supporter, who told me he has heard that McGee is done that he will not be back unless he can get medical redshirt.

Correct. Off the top of my head, Wilson is the only player that I can recall if was able to get a 6th year, in recent history. Even grey shirts don't get 6 years. Generally, they start in the spring and finish in the fall (instead of starting in the fall and ending in the fall)--so they are on the team only 5 years. This assumes that Ochs didn't redshirt at Colo.

another delusional obsessive thread title! what a surprise.
Why in the hell would DM want a medical redshirt when he has opportunitie$ awaiting him in the big league next year? huh? what?

Thats too logical (unless he needs to prove himself healthy)

The question I have is why should MSU want to have him another year? It would severely damage their recruiting as well as their team development with the QB's behind. Why would they want to stay? You simply don't mess with succession. They have recruite, planned and trained for the post DM offense next year

lol, sarcasm noted. As an aside kudos to Mr. McGhee for being a solid citizen and a credit to his team and school. :thumb: :thumb:

Damn! I was going to use the Stephen Sir example. Guy's career lasted 6 years at two schools with one RS (transfer year) and one Medical RS after playing in less than 30% of his team's games.
