Delany's chances of keepig his job?

I think by the time Delaney is 80, 85 tops, we'll have some good teams.

What makes anyone think UM is capable of hiring a coach better than the one it currently has? Anyone who thinks Main Hall is hiring top talent hasn't been paying attention.

Delaney has done a great job.

Last year he was hamstrung with the loss of his starting QB and team leader. The team admitted after last season that losing JJ killed team morale/any chance of being a winner. Delaney was left with a Freshman QB that admitted the game was moving too fast for him. He also lost his starting RB. And the Griz still were in every god damn game! That's good coaching.

This year, the team didn't show up to play NAU, and also lost by less than a TD to the very best team in the league, if not the naiton! The team is 8-2, a top 10 ranked team, and looking for a high playoff seed. That's good coaching.

Way to go Mick and STAFF.

Yup.

If Delaney is brought back and given an extension, I'd like to see him bring in his own staff. Nothing against the current assistants, and some may stay, but Delaney should be able to totally instill his own program. Until then, he's just filling in for a fired coach and leading a leftover staff.

My impression is that Delaney likes the staff this year, much more than last year.

Good post. Agreed. Not having JJ last year cost UM 4 or 5 games.

Are there coaching issues? Yes there are. The fact is, it does not matter what any of us think or want. The decision is with Delaney, and the powers to be. I look back at last season. The coaching and team are better. So the staff is making progress with the program.

Despite us complaining about the offense, offensive line problems, and questionable play calling for most the season, the offense has damn good results. Special teams play is a complete turnaround. I think Coach Brunelle deserves much praise for that. Delaney made that hire. So that was a move for the better.

Our Defense is so talented, yet inconsistent. Despite that, the pass defense is a little better than last year, and the mental break downs are not as frequent. I do agree pass defense and defense have to improve further to better this team. The changes they need to make are with personnel and strategy. The encouraging part , Coach Gregorak has held himself accountable, and addressing the problems head on. He is not hiding from the defensive issues. I have to give him credit for that much. That is the start to improvement. I did personally see a lot of positives in improvement against USD.

As much as I complain and find it hard to get behind this staff, looking at this objectively, it is hard for me to 100% justify a new start after this season. Making the playoffs, and how they perform in the playoffs will help me be more decisive either way. Breaking it down the best I can right now, I think it is more logical to keep Delaney on board, at worse through JJ's Sr year. As of right now, the 2014 season is looking damn promising in terms of talent.

The GRIZ have bigger DB's who redshirted this season, and the DB's who played this season will have more experience. The DL will be in good shape too. We lose a ton at LB, so that will be a crap shoot going into next season. I am not as worried about that. Gregorak is very good at coaching LB's though. Speaking of which, he will have another year under his belt too. That is a sign of better things to come from the defense.

I feel it would be detrimental making a coaching change prior to 2014. That is my objective point of few here. If it were about my personal expectations as a GRIZ fan, and personal preferences, then I would be for change after this season. Unless a too good to be true coaching forerunner comes into play after this season, I am on the side to keep Delaney aboard. Sorry, just being realistic here.

This post is good and very meaningful to me, because I know you understand coaching and a comment you made indicates to attended the last game. Thanks.

Delaney is a damned idiot. If he stays, UM will continue to fall in prestige. Nice guy does not make a good coach. That being said, unless he dies, he will be the coach next year unfortunately.

Negativity really is the way to go. I'm with this guy. Really great. He's fine for now and exactly what this program needed. If this reset button gets another couple of years, fine, let's see what happens.
