interesting question…Again I ask if you were a defensive tackle would you want to play in this defense?
This scheme is supposedly hard to learn and takes a few years to actually work. That’s why the 23 team was so good. They were in it forever. With the portal, you need players to adapt. Since the learning curve is so long, they need to have run a scheme that nobody runs to be effective on day 1. That’s a big part of the problem. That and no beef.It sounds like a piss poor excuse to keep running this scheme, especially considering we can offer more then most FCS schools. Don't get me wrong any scheme can work of its executed properly, however I'm at the point where it's apparent we can't execute our scheme against upper FCS competition.
Well first, they don’t play a 3-3-5 stack. You could loosely call it a 3-3-5 flex. Second if you want to say they ran a 4 man front that’s fine but they did it with 1 linebacker on the los and 2 lined up as linebackers so if anything it was more of a 4-2-5.
Either way with 250 pound d lineman it’s pretty much irrelevant what they ran.
Right?One 280 lb NT, 2 250 lb DE’s and a 225 lb LB on the LOS. A real recipe for success against 5 300+ O-linemen…
Formation doesn't matter for shit. You play the cards you were dealt. We didn't lose because we played 3-3-5. Any formation has to pick a poison; if I was playing MSU I'd have said pass and put 8 in the box, especially if I had Loud. Our DC (way smarter than me) decided to try to do both. That is their choice, but it wasn't pre snap formational. Watch the replay.
We didn’t lose because we played the 3-3-5 specifically, we did lose because the kind of players needed to run to it effectively have only been on this team once since it was brought here and any defense that is dependent upon unicorns to run effectively is trashFormation doesn't matter for shit. I kind of agree with that. Yeah, I can see that. I will admit I like a D with a guy playing 2/3 tech and Eagle, Mike, and Sam running around. I don't know why Coach Hauck is married to the 3-3-5. He must feel that it gives the kids he can get the best chance at being successful. We'd all love to have two 350 guys who run a 4.5 in the middle but I feel like they are at Georgia, or Notre Dame and missing the playoffs which is awesome but also another story.Okay, Sask, then if you know of any FCS or FBS teams that have won a national championship and/or NFL teamsthat have won a Super Bowl playing the 3-3-5--and I am not trying to be a smart a$$--please list them.
The most recent example I know of--sorry for repeating myself--is Jan. 9, 2023 FBS National Championship, TCU vs. Georgia. It is not an exaggeration to say this game was the college football equivalent of The Battle of Little Big Horn as TCU's vaunted 3-3-5 was shredded and annihilated by a big, strong, mobile 300 lb. + Georgia O line as Georgia ran the ball 44 times for 254 yards, 5.8 ypc--sound familiar ?--on their way to a 65-7 embarrassment of TCU.
TCU had the most prominent 3-3-5 defense in the country, and it was embarrassingly obliterated on national TV in a game every TCU alum and/or fan would love to forget : ( !!!
That’s the $64,000 question.I don't know why Coach Hauck is married to the 3-3-5.
$265,000 question?That’s the $64,000 question.
I’m going to guess you’re younger than I am by a few years$265,000 question?
The griz really didn't run a 3-3-5 base. They played what looked like a 4-3 with hybred players meaning DE/LB and LB/S the WLB generally played a buck end which is the same as the 4-2 front the cats showed most of the time. The interior DT Ramos and Bailey are not smaller than the bobcat interior defensive lineman.Okay, Sask, then if you know of any FCS or FBS teams that have won a national championship and/or NFL teamsthat have won a Super Bowl playing the 3-3-5--and I am not trying to be a smart a$$--please list them.

It seemed like they operated out of a 3-3-5 base with a buck end. The NT was eyes up with the center. The griz really didn't run a 3-3-5 base. The Miami hurricanes won multiple NC with hybred players like what Montana has.
Oh and you owe me $100. Are you going to stiff me?
Who would want to risk Haslam making the hire?
No, the Griz ran a 3-3-5. Stemming and moving players to try and match and or mitigate the strengths of the other team does not mean the defense suddenly became something it wasn’t. The Griz took one of their 3 linebackers and moved him to the line. They didn’t add another linebacker when they did that so no it wasn’t a 4-3. They packed the box with 8 players on several occasions did that make the Griz defense a 4-4? Nope. And it’s true that Bailey and Ramos are big, they both play nose and we’re not on the field at the same time. One 285 pound lineman with 2 240 pound linemen is NOT a model for success as the cats proved…twice. The griz really didn't run a 3-3-5 base.
