Last year was. 2023 wasn't. Because we beat the cats that year and went to the natty which we still didn't have any real chance of winning. In my mind, this year will always be mediocre because we lost to the cats twice. This is my opinion which I explained earlier. Others will have a different opinion and that's okay.So you believe the past 3 seasons have been mediocre?
I'd personally be a fan of a 4-2-5 or even a 3-4 Defense (watch alot of Service Academy football). Before you laugh, you do know who runs that right? Hint: check out what Ferris State runs.
What money? Lol. I agree. The trajectory is good. Need better talent up front. That’s all. I don’t feel I’ve wasted one dollar.Just sitting here watching football wondering why people want to burn the program to the ground. And you, why you wasting your money?
Def not arguing with you just people always say we had gubner that was amazing for these defense and what we need but we still didn't win it all ..... that's allNot sure who you’re arguing with. I hate the 3-3-5. I was just pointing out that the 1 good year we had with it was because of Gubs.
It’s actually a base 4-3 that they call a 6-1 because they walk the linebackers up a lot but I get your point.Ferris State
I’m a 4-2-5 fan. It is not without its weaknesses but so is every defense.I'd personally be a fan of a 4-2-5 or even a 3-4 Defense (watch alot of Service Academy football).

Giving up 3rd or 4th and long plays is probably my biggest pet peeve on that side of the ball. Considering it seems to happen way more then it should with this scheme I'd like another Saftey back there to help prevent it.I’m a 4-2-5 fan. It is not without its weaknesses but so is every defense.
This team was talented enough to beat the cats at least once, if not twice. Griz got out-coached. REALLY out-coached.But not talented enough to beat the cats consistently and win the Natty. And that's what this discussion is really about.
Yes. And by walking the LBs up closer to the LOS, they are better able to set the edge. Something it seems like the 3-3-5 has a hard time doing at times. It’s actually a base 4-3 that they call a 6-1 because they walk the linebackers up a lot but I get your point.
I’ve watched 2 Ferris st games this year and they play pretty tough. Very good football teamYes. And by walking the LBs up closer to the LOS, they are better able to set the edge.
Absolutely, 100%……that’s why this game was so big and why it was so important to win the first time around to secure home field. Unfortunately the job didn’t get done either time. Only hope now is Illinois state pulls off the upset to mitigate the damage.Oh. Thats what you meant. Then I stand by my first post. “Descend into mediocrity.” Because if you can’t get it done, then it gets harder and harder to get the kind of players that are talented enough to get the Griz over the hump. Clearly the neighbors develop better players, which will make it harder to recruit. Games like this can dictate program trajectory for a decade. This was catastrophically bad. It will take years to fix.
Didn’t Nova run a 3-3-5 in ‘09 when they beat the Griz? Not defending it as I think it needs scrapped, just saying.Everyone always says oh my we had gubner and yes he was all world and helped the d do its thing but that whole run was Bergen on special teams, people forget are defense wasn't all worldly and stopped Furman or ndsu to win the game instead it went overtime and at those time Bergen scored
We won't win with a 3-3-5, no one ever has
We need to reset and change it up, you know what I like!!! A bobcats defense that just stays at home everyone keeps everything in front of them and they don't have to do crazy blitzes try to throw the offense off, just good old defensive football "Nick Saban style"
I believe it was a 4-2-5 base that yearDidn’t Nova run a 3-3-5 in ‘09 when they beat the Griz? Not defending it as I think it needs scrapped, just saying.
I would be tickled pink. I used to be one of those “always root for Montana schools” kind of guys. The neighbors fans have slowly eroded that away. I’ll root for any of the kids playing once they stop wearing those colors. Until then, I hope they lose by 100 every time. I hate that fanbase.Absolutely, 100%……that’s why this game was so big and why it was so important to win the first time around to secure home field. Unfortunately the job didn’t get done either time. Still has a distinct lack of beef. Everyone keeps saying it’s hard to defend the run when you have d ends on the interior. You can’t give up 50 lbs each. This years griz defense resembles a 4-3 slide more than it does a 3-3 stack.
