Defensive Scheme

Zero chance beating them next year in Bozeman. Bobby can’t even get it done at home despite 39-9 seniors. Out coached out developed out weightroomed A new streak has begun and it’s not a good one.
Well said. But make sure you keep him around...

I disagree but that’s neither here nor there. Our biggest issue is our d line constantly gets washed or completely blown off the ball.
So how many times did you see the griz D lined up in a 3-3-5 stack formation today? As opposed to an under front with a LB on the LOS with edge responsibility and a safety in the box for run support?

I think it's more the fact our base Defense is a 3-3-5 and we recruit people for that scheme, making it a personnel issue. It's not surprising to me that we tried to adjust by doing something different and it didn't do very well especially on the edges.

Well first, they don’t play a 3-3-5 stack. You could loosely call it a 3-3-5 flex. Second if you want to say they ran a 4 man front that’s fine but they did it with 1 linebacker on the los and 2 lined up as linebackers so if anything it was more of a 4-2-5.
Either way with 250 pound d lineman it’s pretty much irrelevant what they ran.

The point I was trying to make is that the griz rarely line up in a stack 3-3-5. Generally a LB plays buck end and has edge responsibility. A safety moves into the box for run support and the defense slides or shifts gaps. So the defense resembles the 4-3 slide not a 4-2 like the cats which usually lines up in an under front.

I get what you’re saying. And I don’t necessarily disagree with it just a terminology thing more than anything else I suppose. But again, you can call it whatever you like, describe it however you like, the truth is we are utilizing undersized linemen, so where the linebackers line up or how many guys are on the LOS is just noise because they’re all getting blown the fuck out.

I know it sounds potentially foolish to some but maybe we'd benefit from talking to the Military schools and their defensive philosophies for how they utilize and recruit for Defense.
Granted I'm only saying this because of this coaching staffs apparent inability or refusal to get beef in the trenches, and as many think I think it starts with recruiting for the current scheme so if we change it maybe we can actually get the bodies we need.

To hear Rocky Long, Tony White and Bobby Hauck tell it, one of the strengths of the 3-3-5 is utilizing undersized lineman because it’s almost impossible to get linemen that are big enough to run a traditional 4 man front.
It appears its only an issue for those 3 however as our opponents don’t seem to be suffering from it..

Idk if hauck getting fired is the fix. We are only playing semifinal brawl games because he came back. But at least from a scheme and playcalling standpoint shits gotta change. Talent wise we are getting the recruits both hs and transfers. Culture seems there. It just seems like coming out of covid we have had the pieces to win a natty but just keep getting out coaches. Idk if its pease, he seems smart but sometime he has head scratching moments. Bradford seemed like the guy on defense but idk if bradford and tim are the answer now. And it does worry me that they wont get rid of tim if he is the problem. Just such a rough day because it feels like were just going through the same shit every year.

We lost Bradford to the Dolphins last year

Why if "getting enough big linemen" seems impossible for them we should be talking to the military Academies whose athletes have certain height and weight restrictions. If those guys can do it and have success (especially Navy) then it's a blueprint we could follow.

But again as highlighted it's weird we seem to have an issue with it but the Dakotas and MSU don't.

Odd, isn’t it?

I like the idea but not sure it's the best path forward considering Army was beat by Tarleton State.

Isn’t it odd that the dakotas and Bozeman have no problem finding good d linemen🤔
It sounds like a piss poor excuse to keep running this scheme, especially considering we can offer more then most FCS schools. Don't get me wrong any scheme can work of its executed properly, however I'm at the point where it's apparent we can't execute our scheme against upper FCS competition.
