I don't put much stock in these kinds of rumors. I hope they're not true.
As far as I'm concerned, my brain says this. Travis is a great high-character guy. He graduates his players. There seems to be good chemistry on this team, witness that nobody jumped ship when the transfer portal was jammed with players. And while the junior class has not met our expectations, this year's sophomore class has produced two all-Big Sky caliber players in Bannan and Beasley, and another excellent guard, Brandon Whitney. All have three years of eligibility remaining after this year. The pipeline has some promising recruits, with size. We can still hope for a good big through the transfer portal. So everything looks good, right?
But my heart? I dunno. Used to be, I never missed a Griz game. If there was any sports-related conflict, it always got resolved in favor of the Griz. But this year? Not so much; I've missed several games. I think it's the offense--or lack of it. I know teams go through scoring droughts; hell, I just saw the Warriors blow a 20-point lead against Dallas a few nights ago, going something like eight minutes without a field goal. It happens. But never have I seen a team go through these stretches as often as a DeCuire coached team. It's just frustrating to watch. And while the Lady Griz were almost unwatchable two days ago because of their inability to shoot the damned ball, at least you could see a semblance of an offense. But even Mike Montgomery said he couldn't see one when the men played Oregon earlier this year. You just watch a Griz game any more, waiting for that drought to hit, hoping it doesn't kill us.
Or, sadly, you just don't watch.
My recommendation again: An offensive coordinator. A coach who brings a glowing offensive resume to the program. Who has as bag of offensive tricks to pull us out of these scoring funks that have plagued us for years.
