Dear Chris Lider:

In general, football (and all sports for that matter) is something of a microcosm of life, one that is predicated upon failure. Sure you can measure 5 - 6 this season against 11 - 3 last season and find less failure in last year's campaign, but nonetheless, last year ended with a loss too. There is such a simplistic, yet profound greatness in GG's signature quote from Vince Lombardi. "The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall." Those words are relevant far beyond the scope of competitive sports; they apply to pretty much everything we do. And in the realm of Griz football, every person associated with the program has an equal opportunity to address the failures and rise up again.

The important thing to remember, in my opinion, is the one constant that is shared by every poster on this board -- and that constant is passion. Even Bobcat fans have passion for Griz football; sure, in many cases, it's a negative passion, but a passion nonetheless. It doesn't matter if the poster is male, female, an android or whatever, what matters is the passion that lives inside those posts. This is a place for conversation, for agreement and for disagreement about something that we are passionate about. If no one cared, there would be no posts. It's not a matter of whether a poster is a good poster or a bad poster; that's for personal interpretation. What matters is that Griz football, in one form or another, lives inside us all. I woke up as a proud Griz yesterday and I woke up as one again today (although I sure would like to get hold of that comedian who snuck into my room and carpeted my tongue last night while I was passed out; damn, if I'd have known I was going to be this thirsty today, I would have drank more yesterday/last night) and I will wake up proud to be a Griz tomorrow.

Nothing to add to this except. :thumb:

GGnez, Every coach we have had since egriz was started has received the "he should be fired"' statement and then the "give him a chance" response. This is the first one that I believe should go, now. There have been many poor play calls and time management decisions that I could live with. There will always be poor play calling. It is impossible to call a perfect game. However, there were two play-calls this season that no amount of time would undo their mind-numbing stupidity. By your own admission you claim not to understand the nuisances of the game. If you did you might understand the reason for many people wanting the nice guy gone.

No...I do understand why people do want him gone. And, as a female who only began learning football in 2000 (at age 26), I have a lot to learn about the nuances and can't relate to being on the field in uniform. I have learned a lot, but see the game, often, in metaphors and as the bigger, whole picture. I have seen many reasons to be frustrated with certain play calls and strategies by coaches this season. But, I believe in growth, learning by mistakes and think that Delaney was unprepared to take this job this year. Doesn't mean he won't come back better, more ready and having learned from his mistakes how to do it right. (Just like Chris L - he should learn and come back to try again next year).

Lider has a lot of talent and potential in his leg. He is a freshman, and inconsistent play is expected with most Freshman and Sophomores, regardless of position

Chris Lider needs to learn to put bad kicks behind him, and focus on consistently striking the ball. He needs a lot of repetitions to do that. He just does not strike the ball consistently, and likely his set up and timing is causing that. He has a lot of talent to win a lot of games for the GRIZ the next 3 years, give him time.

Hopefully, any decision by either the University or by Mick regarding his future (stay or go) is done quickly so that whomever is coach for 2013 can get to work on recruiting as soon as possible and have a full offseason to work with to prepare the team for next season.

Why do keep mentioning that you are a female? You're only furthering the stereotype that females are unable to understand football.

I mention it to point out a different perspective, not lack of knowledge. I know a lot more about the game and the Griz than many men. But, growing up a girl, I did not play the game, nor did my friends and I discuss the rules and strategies of football growing up.

Says the lady wha says "don't pick on Mick"

I have defended Delaney and stand by my opinion that he should stay and finish his contract and the people should NOT unduly blame every aspect of every loss on one man. I believe that this is a learning year and have 100% confidence that, if he does stay, Mick will have a much improved plan and team next year. I don't like people calling for his firing or resignation.

I feel the same about Lider (or any other specific player or coach). I am frustrated that several chip-shots were missed in critical games by our starter. I don't think Lider should be off the team, is the sole reason for any loss,or that he has no future and I think a player can take criticism after a poor performance. I think he needs practice and growth (like Mick).

GGNEZ - Just stop talking. I assumed you were drunk with the stupid post you started this with, but now you are just babbling.

She's a woman. What do you expect her to do?

But he makes me want to drop-kick a puppy (between the goal posts) or, at the very least, punch a baby.

That's too funny. I'll never be able to listen to announcers talk about a pooch kick with a straight face. But dang it GG, you owe me a keyboard, you made me spit soda all over mine.

 Sorry, OTG (kind of).

You should know that drinking and eGrizzing has it's risks. ;)

Soooooo boring.....this idea that it is clever to try to impress or emulate Alpha by suggesting women are all the same, less worthy, less intelligent....whatever the insult. Depends on the day and the d-bag posting. It shows a lack of intelligence on your part. Can't find issue with the merit of a person, so insult them for their gender. Guys like you are fortunate that women like me don't judge all men by your misogyny and lack of social skills. Frankly, I'm equally exhausted by women who spout about "all men" being pigs or idiots or jerks. Lame.

I guess I feel that maybe some will appreciate where a certain perspective is coming from. I know a lot of male football fans who leave women out of football discussions because they assume they will not be interested or don't value their perspective. Conversely, I know a lot of women who are afraid to ask about football during games or when it is discussed by men because they don't want to appear naive and, therefore, never learn about the game. It seems to be a typically male discussion but I find the game fascinating. Mentioning my gender is also a bit of a disclaimer - stating that I have never played the game nor been coached at it.

Your point is understood, but you needn't be concerned. It looks like many egriz posters didn't play the game or discuss it growing up either--judging by their posts. In fact, some of them appear not to have even grown up. At least, you learned the game. All they learned was to think it is funny to insult women, and be homophobic and bigoted on occasion.

Put me in any pile. Any of you posters bitch about me .... Fine. Get in line!

Back to Lider, he is a good kicker. Period. Most freshmen are a bit suspect. This was a good year for him to begin under fire.

I have been promoting both Shaw and Lider and I am glad they are on our team. Both will do much better next year.

I won't bother getting in a cat peeing match with any of you. I like your posts and if some were not radical it would end the entire thing and the other Chris would be required to shut this site down.

Alpha? I do not know him from a cabinet. I get a kick out of him. GGNez holds her own with him and she does not require my help.

Hell this is football. Not one person died at the game last Saturday so that was good.

Keep up the bitching and talking up the Griz, cause this ain't over!

There is no reason, especially at this point in the season, that those FG's should have been missed or the PAT anything other than straight thru the uprights. Arguably this is the most important game of the season, this is not the game in which to have an "off game".

I also understand that Lider takes no responsibility for his missed kicks, blames the wind, the snap, the hold etc.

Spring ball should bring some healthy and well deserved competition with Lider and Greenberg.

As player rep said, her message is understood. I don't have a problem with any of her posts and have never disparaged her. I just think she could stop prefacing every other post with I am female. The point has been made.

Point taken, BFG. Opinion appreciated.

PR, I'm going to try and word this the right way. Is it your opinion that someone who never played or coached football should not post any observation or criticism? You and I have traded posts before and I usually make it clear I've never played when I state a criticism. I understand how you can get frustrated with a lot of posters on here, but truthfully you make me and I think others feel like we gotta walk on eggshells. I would guess a large percentage of football fans never played at the level they enjoy watching. But a lot of people (men and women) have picked up knowledge of the game through years (in my case 35) of following their team. GGNez even makes the point that she has learned a lot about the game this way. I don't find any problem with her thread. She obviously can recognize a good kick from a bad kick. There was a guy that made a thread yesterday where he was venting some frustration but then slipped into name calling. That I do not agree with. Even fans who have never played can recognize a good performance from a bad performance or a Brock Coyle from a third string linebacker. I don't believe one has to have played to provide constructive criticism of a players performance. In fact when we state our disappointment in a player, in this case Lider, for me it is because I know the guy is talented and can get it done. Anyway I'm getting to wordy. Just wanted to make a case that some of us have the learned the game other ways and that does not mean we could ever step on the field and perform like these guys do. I usually defer to other people that have played or coached to provide insight on what the better play call would have been or what defensive formation the team should have been in. If I post a criticism and I'm wrong in my assessment I have no problem with other posters with more knowledge providing me with cronstructive criticism. And it can be done on all sides without calling people idiots and such.

Done with my rant and run on paragraph.
