Covered practice facility

Well since i never played the game (although I did go through 2-a-days in August of ‘76 as a skinny frosh at Sentinel (purple team, mind you) I can’t relate to Rob’s nephew.

I’m in. They’re not getting access to my checking account tho. I’ll pay in a different way.

I’m down. I understand wanting to help the basketball team out and believe me, I’m all for that as they’re the cream of the crop right now in the athletic department, but I wish there was a way to get this going sooner rather than later. Maybe if we make a deep run this year, it’ll loosen up some of those wallets.

One bitcoin will get this moving the right direction. All I need is the address of your bitcoin wallet, you can PM me.

The die is cast. As of this time 7:32 pm on Sunday evening we have 11 commits and one bitcoin, thanks AzGrizFan.
I had set a time limit of 72 hrs.to get 60 commits. By 2:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon if we are successful I will invest my time to pursue this further with Kent and Greg. I encourage anyone who feels this is a worthwhile endeavor to get on board.

Where would they build a facility like that? Campus is getting kind of cramped.

East side of the stadium. Where the old and outdated equipment buildings are. Near the trailhead to the M.

:thumb: Thanks. At least it won’t be on top of our tailgate spot. lol

14 and counting, come on Griz fans let’s get to 60. And please don’t say you’re in if your not. This is one way we can all show our support for the hard work our Griz players and coaches do to make us all proud Montanans! Time 8:57 pm

With how committed this area (Pacific Northwest to Eastern MT), would it not make sense to just propose some kind of GRIZ Athletic tax, for businesses choosing to participate, or even a state wide tax. Many GRIZ fans are tapped out as is in how much $$$$ already goes toward GRIZ athletics. IF, we collectively do decide to commit to something like this, can we get some assurance from the powers to be, that they will minimize the price increases for GRIZ football and basketball tickets? Hell, even general admission for GRIZ basketball is nearing or over, $10 per ticket. Sitting in the more comfortable suits, are over $20 per ticket. If, they are going to have ticket prices like that, why not put tickets on sale for the public for the 1st level seats. Many of those seats are unoccupied for the out of conference games.

I also don't like having anyone doing automatic withdrawals from my account. God forbid, an unexpected major expense happen for medical reasons, or a catastrophic home repair, etc. I think, it is easier to manage money, without committing to auto withdrawals.

How about a committed fund raising drive at the end of each year (December), through income tax return time (April). That is the best time for people to more willingly depart with some money. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for supporting GRIZ athletics the best I can, but we also need to keep in mind the market we live in, and the lack of good paying jobs. Hell, many people are already strapped just in the cost of living in Missoula. This is one damn expensive market to live in, for what the jobs pay. This an absolutely terrible market, when comparing average income to average cost of living. IF we want a successful fund raising campaign, we need to think a lot out of the box. Your EGRIZ faithful are much more diehards, than the casual GRIZ fans that aren't part of various fan social media groups.

I like the concept and the purpose. I just feel, there has to be more and better options to get optimal outcome and backing for it.

I do know that our nemesis over the hill has a plan in place to build an indoor practice facility. Time frame unknown but how pathetic of us to allow them to beat us!
They should build a decent BBall arena; the old Field House would be an ideal FB practice facility.

Mtgrizrule your points are well taken and I will attempt to address each one with a counter argument. But first let me say I am a frequent reader and sometime poster to egriz and I have enjoyed your postings as being sincere and well thought out.
To comment on why not instigate some type of Griz athletic tax. Any tax, and the key word is “tax” would require a legislative approval and/or municipal approval. I don’t think further explanation is required.
Second comment, assurance from administration that there would not be additional dollars added to the already high ticket prices. That in part is why this is a fund raising event. If enough money is committed by the guy in the street then perhaps the daddy warbucks will recognize this to be an important project to get behind? Just speculating but I think the higher ticket prices we are seeing is more the result of Title IX, and don’t get me wrong I’m certainly not opposed to most of the Title IX requirements. Most of the improvements i.e. the Champions Center were funded with private donations. Likewise the cost of travel, insurance, wage increases etc. are more the reason for ticket price increases. I’m sure the reduction in students (35%) over the past five years has also played into reduced athletic fees. Would you be willing to settle for less competitive teams if your ticket prices were lower? That’s what you would get if Bobby or Travis had to cut back on recruiting trips.
All I’m asking is if you want to keep the level of competitiveness at the trajectory we currently enjoy then there are no free lunches. I know I’m beginning to sound like a broken record but at less than a $1 a day we can support the passion we all share, Grizzly athletics.

I’m in.

As for the $30 or $35 million facility, I view that as unnecessary and unrealistic. Can’t imagine that amount could be raised. And mainly for minor sports?

What are they thinking? The new performance center took forever to fund, and cost $14 million. It still really isn’t paid for, is it?

Set a realistic goal for something much less expensive.

George Ferguson made several accurate points. The MSU indoor facility will be designed for many sports and fully compliant with Title IX.

The Phase I fundraising went very well, and efforts have already begun on Phase II. The original 2017 plan called for $16MM, but the development effort exceeded that number in short order, and instead of calling it a day and starting Phase II, the AD decided to make Phase I even better on the order of $18.2MM. The Academic Center will be improved from the original plan and a few other upgrades (like CDA's favorite: hydro therapy).

Here are a few highlights of the MSU indoor facility plan:

* 150,000 to 160,000 square feet
* 300-meter track for indoor training and NCAA competition
* 8 lanes with 8 lane straight-a-way
* 100-yard synthetic field for all field sports
* seating for up to 1,000 spectators
* locker rooms, concessions, restrooms and amenities to support events
* 45’-0” clear below structure at perimeter, 65’-0” clear at center
* Press Box and Camera Positions
