It’s either bite the bullet and make the necessary commitment to go forward or recognize that we do not nor will we ever have the resources to move up. Fact of life, get use to it.
I hate to say it but the only program in this state that has the ability, the student base and is on an upward trajectory is that school 180 miles to our East. As a Grizzly fan for 55 years it’s enough to make me want to throw up.

Please explain why you think that. I don't agree at all. I see nothing that indicates UM can't continue, financially and otherwise, where it is. NOTHING.

All you have to do is look at the trend in college athletics specifically football. To continue at the current pace we cannot continue to watch our counterparts i.e.James Madison, App State, Georgia Southern etc. etc. etc move up. We’ll be left with Northwestern Louisiana, Drake and St. John’s of Minnesota. Do you think we can continue to draw the crowds? Do you think the 2 and 3 star athletes will want to showcase their talents against Drake? Don’t kid yourself. Do you think we can count on our benefactors to continue to support the program with their dollars? Our dwindling enrollment, don’t kid yourself 300 more students isn’t necessarily a positive trend.
You can see from my original post way back at the beginning I’m contradicting myself. And that’s exactly what’s wrong with this whole argument. There are those, who seem to be the majority of posters on here see the glass as half empty. If we’re of the opinion that it can’t be done then we’ve doomed ourselves to mediocrity.

Nah. Other than football, there’s been good success at the D1 level. VBall, men’s and women’s hoops, soccer, etc. The football program just needs to finally figure it out.

I enjoy reading through the lame attempts at smack by the usual frequent fliers in here; however, there are a few posters who keep current on FCS football and the mid-majors in bouncy ball. The foe button is great if you don't want to listen to them babble like Bruce Springsteen talking about their supposed glory days... You know, the legends in their own mind like AL Bundy.

That being said, what Colorado school is doing anything with their athletics? Denver but that's a private school playing a fucking third world country game like North Dakota. Who gives a shit about communist games? Your athletic departments are full of people who have absolutely no connection to the schools they work in and when you're around them, they sound like the anti-move up crowd in here.

They're happy to just field a team and to hell with giving the athletic department the resources to compete against schools from North Dakota, South Dakota or Wyoming. Christ, Wyoming has half the population Montana has but it has one university and several junior colleges that everything a kid takes transfers into their university! Shit, Montana has six fucking podunk schools and the credits don't transfer from school to school. Colorado is worse off because they think Stanford is a better school than Colorado State...

You are right; and that’s why our athletic director is on the hot seat with the hiring of Coach Ed. He’s done a good job with hiring other coaches, but the football one is a big swing-and a-miss.

Meanwhile back on the farm…….if you jerkoffs are done debating your manliness or lack there of maybe we can get back on the subject at hand.
To begin the process of building up our athletic budget so when the time comes, and it will, we have the option to have choices rather than being dictated too by the BSC or other outside influences. We’re fortunate in that we have most of the infrastructure in place. When the new practice bubble is brought on line in addition to the recently completed Champions Center we are positioned to compete in the Mountain West or maybe there will be other options available in the next few years?
The point is no one can predict the future of college football, it’s in a constant state of flux. What we can do is be better prepared to have choices. The infrastructure is there, now we need to work on improving our athletic budget.
