The best way to troll this board would be to agree with the Sac State fans that say they have a better shot at FBS than UM does.
But I’d think there’s a 50% chance of joining Conference USA if you went for it. Yes, you have to be careful joining that conference; it’s now the Great West of the FBS set.
If UM finds itself in the MWC, it’ll be because the impactful schools (especially Boise State) left. Which means it won’t be $4 million per year, it’ll be less. The networks are trying to spend on what will bring the serious eyeballs more than “the brand.” The number of Boise State fans still throwing crap on the Pac-12 for not recognizing them as a brand after the big 12 already decided that Houston and Central Florida were a better fit still amuses me. Though I’ll say it here… Stanford and Cal DGAF and Oregon would rather hang with them than the b12 because recruiting territory.
I can’t begin to guess what’ll happen to FCS. I do think some programs will eventually give up the ghost. It’s wise to look at moving. But who wants Montana and why? It takes two for snuggle bunnies.
