Play good defense. Run the ball. Don't turn it over. But the Hauck haters have adopted it as some kind of derogatory term to describe if the Griz lose a game and don't throw it 50 times.
I've also heard it to mean an emphasis on not taking shots downfield or getting the ball to playmakers. While yes, I did feel frustrated last year in particular at times, that is completely unfair to put on Hauck. The detractors act as if we didn't just have a WR break Randy Freaking Moss' single game receiving record a couple of years ago. As if Akem wasn't an absolute first down machine with Sneed, and to a lesser extent with Cam.
Cam wasn't a gunslinger like Sneed, but the offense still moved it deep. When Johnson was healthy early in the season, he was slinging some good deep shots. But the receivers weren't always getting open and the offense really stagnated after he was hurt. To take this paragraph and re-write history to create a perception of "Bobby Ball" as never taking a shot downfield is just unfair. Yet it persists. What were the coaches supposed to say "Hey, listen, our receivers aren't ready yet. Flowers hasn't developed his ability to hit breaks to get open, and our other guys are still young and developing as athletes and route runners. We would love to knock somebody out and put Toure in their jersey, but the Packers won't let him come back to Montana for that"?
Really looking forward to this year. I only got to one practice this spring, but Vidlak had eyes downfield and hopefully he (or our new addition at QB) shuts a lot of people up about the offense.
