Great programs need consistency. Consistency = not hiring a new football coach every other year. We haven't had consistency since Bobby left, which is why we haven't won squat since 2011. Patience is lost on many fans.
Wyoming gave Joe Glenn six years. He was consistent. They were patient. They ended up 1-7. Is that our goal?

Is that your prediction? Because if so, I'll take that bet for any amount you're willing to lose.

That's just dumb. The point is that "consistency" and "patience" are not necessarily useful tools or metrics to build a successful program but can, in fact, be harbingers of failure. Engstrom has been consistent. The Board of Regents has been patient.

Creating lasting cultures of failure do not make those characteristics virtues, no matter how much you want to "bet" on it. Bet on Engstrom if you are so gung ho. I'll take that bet.

Stitt built CSM. They would have nothing without him.
True enough, they managed two conference championships in 15 years. They could not have done that without Bob Stitt. It is a feat still unmatched in all of college football. And I am sure he will do much better at the DI level.

And, I hope he does, but the frustration of watching that man "manage" is excruciating. The biggest critic of the players the past three weeks has been ... Bob Stitt. And he readily claims its not for youth and inexperience or lack of talent. It's lack of "commitment" and "fire." He specifically says of some team members "I hope some of these guys get the message."

Part of that message apparently is getting the D coach to let the D players know what's going on during the alleged football game. Good grief, put Hillary Clinton in charge. The whole world will know what the play plan is.

No "bad fan" is as publicly down on and as critical of his team as this Coach. And yes, I am critical of that approach and made that clear last year. It's inappropriate. These are young guys that want to play hard and succeed. The $300,000 a year coach is paid to make that happen.

You're like the proverbial turd in the punch bowl. Have you NO sense of humor?

Not really. They've been playing football since 1909 (actually 1888 as I went and looked it up) if I recall. John Wristen at CSU-Pueblo is the one that built a team up from nothing (as in NO football team)....and actually won a National Championship in 2014, just a mere 7 years after starting from scratch in 2008. From no team on the field to a NC is by far more impressive than anything Stitt has done.

And I'm not a Stitt hater, just setting the record straight. Wristen was not seriously considered for the Griz job because of a prior domestic incident where he assumed responsibility, and moved on. CSUP forgave him, and hired him. Damn good thing they did. IMO he is far the superior coach of Stitt though.

Well Stitt had a pretty long stay at CSM. That said he had several recruiting classes in his belt but did not have that great of record and playoff history. Seems to me whom ever is coaching CSM currently is getting a better performance out of some of Stitts recruits.

Gregg Brandon.....started his college coaching career at Weber in the early 80s. Prior to the CSM job, he was OC at Wyoming, and then New Mexico State.

Acceptance rates for CSM and CSU-Pueblo:

CSU-Pueblo: 96% (2016)
CSM: 38% (2016)

Easy to build a football team when you have that high of an acceptance rate.

....UM ~93%. Should be easy for Stitt?

Just curious what your thoughts on Chuck Morrell were after he went a combined 4-16 in 2013-14, with a seventh-place and last-place finish in the Frontier, with those two teams featuring the most productive running back in school history, Pat Hansen.

School of Mines had 17 Conference Championships prior to Stitt, mostly in the early years of the program and a sprinkling of "All Americans" in more recent years, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1974, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1995, as well as several under Stitt. The only NFL picks in recent years were in 1975 and 1994 (none under Stitt). School rushing and TD records are held by an athlete earned during the 1989-1992 seasons. The school punting records were earned during the 1986-1989 seasons. Several school records are held by athletes who joined the Orediggers in 1999 and were recruited before Stitt arrived. The 1995-2000 coach had an 11-41 record, not too hot for sure, and Stitt is by far the most successful coach in years (110-62).

During Stitt's tenure there, Mines won one outright RMAC championship and shared two. During that time, Chadron State won five championships, CSU-Pueblo four, and Nebraska-Kearney, four outright or shared.

Montana State won RMAC Championships in 1946, 1947, 1954 and 1956 and was neck-and-neck with School of Mines in those years as conference contenders.

The new Mines football facility is named after Marv Kay, the Mines Coach from 1969-1995. A middling coach, but he had some 6-4 seasons. Stitt had a 4-7 season in 2006 and 6-5 in 2012. It happens. Pun avoided.
