Not really. They've been playing football since 1909 (actually 1888 as I went and looked it up) if I recall. John Wristen at CSU-Pueblo is the one that built a team up from nothing (as in NO football team)....and actually won a National Championship in 2014, just a mere 7 years after starting from scratch in 2008. From no team on the field to a NC is by far more impressive than anything Stitt has done.
And I'm not a Stitt hater, just setting the record straight. Wristen was not seriously considered for the Griz job because of a prior domestic incident where he assumed responsibility, and moved on. CSUP forgave him, and hired him. Damn good thing they did. IMO he is far the superior coach of Stitt though.
Acceptance rates for CSM and CSU-Pueblo:
CSU-Pueblo: 96% (2016)
CSM: 38% (2016)
Easy to build a football team when you have that high of an acceptance rate.
....UM ~93%. Should be easy for Stitt?
It would be easier for Stitt to accomplish his goals if he wasn't dealing with the following:
Two years of NCAA sanctions and 4 less scholarships. Also, Delaney didn't leave him the strongest team either. I believe we will start seeing big improvements next year when we have all of our scholarships back.
