A quote for the ages; right on; could be on the locker room wall.

As could a 100 other quotes from this thread alone, and many more before our game on our board. That context was meant for the poster who started this thread. Griz fans, besides a couple dumbasses, are great.
No need to get defensive; if you couldn't tell, I loved the quote and thought it perfectly appropriate.

Stand up and cheer...we disagree. It is my opinion there is no just cause for spitting on an opponent. None, nadda etc. Especially wearing the uniform of a Montana public university and on a regionally televised game. "Big John" should be dismissed from the team and lose his scholly for what most would consider a gross and embarassing act. What better time in life is there to learn there are consequences for disgusting behavior. That was a huge black eye for Montana collegiate sports.

That was one of the most improbable come back wins in their school history. They will be talking about that game 30 years from now. Don't blame em.

Hadn't ever been to a game at EWU. Was nervous because I had heard all this smack on this board about bad fans, bad field, bad facilities, bad experiences. You know, people find what they're looking for. I didn't get so much as a cross look from an Eagles fan. A few college kids yelling out the car window after the game - big deal! Everybody I came in contact with at at the stadium was friendly. Went to dinner in Cheney after the game and was treated nice. What I saw was a team with a small fan base due to competition (though if I were a Coug, I'd go watch the Eagles  ) showing pride, doing the best they can to create a good atmosphere and doing a good job of it. I'll go back. I just wish they'd get some more bathrooms and concessions.

Nice post. We Griz fans have become very spoiled over the years with all of the advantages that we have in terms of support, accolades about game day experience and even our teams success. EWU is trying to raise their university football program to the level that we have. I appluad them for that. Don't whine about the BSC being small time because they have to play in front of 6000 fans some weekends and then demean them for trying to raise the level of excitement and game day experience.

I hated watching their fans storm the field but it wasn't because they were classless. It was because we had the game in hand and found a way to make it possible for them to get to storm the field. It was a great come back. One that I hope every Griz player, coach and fan don't want to experience again. Learn, improve and see that it doesn't happen again. Go Griz! :thumb:

Pretty much how I see it. Glad we agree. Go Griz!

I completely agree. Great quote.

I agree with you that we do disagree. Disgusting, yes. Cause for team dismissal and loss of scholly, not even close. Game ejection was appropriate. This week should be spent running stairs until he pukes, publicly apologizing to each and everyone of his teammates, and even a little community service done over the next several weeks. Maybe you've never played the game of football, I don't know, but I can guarantee you there's a lot more disgusting things that happen during the course of a game than just spitting. Again, I'm not condoning the action, but you've gone off the deep end on this one. Football is a violent, mean game game. If you're gonna be offended by spitting, maybe you should switch to soccer. I'd be curious to see your reaction if this was a Griz player and not someone from a rival team.

I did have a bad experience at EWU in 2006 which I described earlier on this thread. I can say the Eagle fans I've seen post on here this last few days have all made good points and have done so in a respectville manner. Hell most EGRIZ fans treat each other worse than fans of opposing schools. I am glad I saved my classless behavior for my TV as I watched the game. I also have to change my earlier stance about charging the field. I read a lot of other comments about charging the field and after letting sanity resume control I have to say it isn't such a big deal really. Good luck to the Eagles and hopefully we'll see 5 Big Sky teams in the playoffs (Griz, Cats, Cal Poly, Eagles, NAU or North Dakota) and Griz get another shot at the Eagles. Have a good week everybody only 5 days until more football! :P

There are a relatively few idiots who support every team, including ours. But only another idiot would stereotype all fans of any school based on the actions of the few idiots.

Don't be an idiot.

Stand up and Cheer... you're right in that I am a little over the top on this. I think his act was gross disgusting and an embarassment to the State of Montana. My real point is to elicite strong reactions from certain bobcat fans that come onto this site and make outrageous statements and claims. If this had been a Griz player we would have heard about it for decades. They are useless trolls that reall need to get a life (2506).
Do I think he should lose his scholly, or not allowed to play? Not really, I think he should sit out the rest of the season and personally apologive to SUU and all the residents of Montana that pay taxes to operate MSU.
I will really be curious how Coach St. Ash handles this one since he let Monter of with a one quarter suspension for contributing to the delinqnecy of a minor. It sure seems consequences are weak in Bozo.

I hate ewu classless fans, but I respect the true ewu fans. I was astonished by how many fans called me a pos, griz fA--ot, rape victim, Dick head, and I didn't even go to the students. I won't be back to Cheney because they told my niece to suck them like they were Jordan Johnson. Yea....... I won't lump All eastern fans in, griz have some bad apples. But that's one town I won't ever take my griz gear to again. Maybe the only town I won't wear griz gear in

For the most part the Eagle fans on this board have been gracious about winning and I appreciate this a great deal. I'm awaiting the obligatory verbal beating that I will take from co-workers today. I'm hopeful that it will not resort to "Big Johning" each other.

their field,

their fans,

their win,

their celebration!

if we win it doesn't happen, see how it works?

I have no problem with the way EW rushed the field, celebrated etc. They had a pretty awesome win for their program! I also have no issues with yelling a cheering for your team, even to the point of arrogance!

Before the game my wife and I met a couple of very nice EW fans at the tailgate and met up with several EW students that went to high school with my kids and had some good natured exchange. Once we got to our seats it was pretty much an onslaught of negative and nasty comments for the rest of the game. Even on the way to the restrooms, concessions and on the way out after the game. A small sample:

We F**k sheep.
Go and stay the f**k home.
We are rapists.
F**k Montana t shirts on a couple of gals walking in front of the stands while holding up the middle finger.
etc.
etc.

I realize that this is not how all EW fans behave but I was surprised at the large number that did. I have read on this board and have heard that most all BSC fan bases hate Montana and WOW was that ever confirmed  Needless to say it left a really bad taste in our mouths and it's doubtful that we will ever attend a game in Cheney again. I was ashamed of my fellow Washintonians!!

This is how 99% of them act 24/7.

You got off lightly.

Seriously? Where the hell did you sit? Where did you walk? I sat in a mixed section of the stands, right behind Eagles fans. I made a couple trips back-n-forth the length of the stadium. I went to the concession stand. Talked to at least five staff people. Parked a long way from the stadium and walked to and from. Saw a pretty typical smattering of juvenile college student behavior that you would see at every game at WAGriz. Didn't experience any of the stuff you mention above - though I don't look that close at people's t-shirts.

You Sir, are a complete jackwad!!

I've been to all of the Griz games in Cheney since 2004. I went to the game with my entire family, daughter and son came over from Butte and Missoula respectively. We were with a couple of EWU alums and season ticket holders, one of them works for me. We had a good time other than the same comments listed above (sheep f*** , rapists, etc. maybe the same crew of drunk idiots in both instances) The only issue we had was in the first quarter of the game in the south endzone a couple of EWU fans purposefully stood in front of a female Griz fan. When they refused to move or sit down (lots of room to do so btw) my daughter, all 6'3" of her told the young man that she would stand in front of him the entire game, he said fine. Several minutes later the middle aged lady griz fan said something else to the kid and he pushed her down into the stands. Then stuff got physical between the kid and the Griz fan's husband. The kid's girl friend then took a punch (missed) at my daughter and then "little info" grabbed the hair of the other chick and popped her twice in the nose before I picked her up and restrained her. The cops escorted the guy out of the stadium with his gf, who now has an understanding about trying to suckerpunch a Butte girl.

Cops were great and very apologetic concerning the whole ordeal.

btw, we got beat in the end by several great plays, I still like our team and am very proud of the way they fought back through adversity. :thumb:

Didn't have any problems either but then weren't looking for them. (Had to laugh at a couple of EWU fans that told us it was going to be a long ride home and we asked 'em why.....) We had problems with the Days Inn in Airway Heights who tried to jump the rate on us, and a large group of griz fans who were late to their seats, early to leave at half, late coming back, early to leave mouthy when told to wait until there wasn't a play going on to move.....

Other than that, when seeing our Griz gear the the Red Lobster in Cour d' lene bought us apetizers, an a couple of other watering holes bought us a round. Over all it was better than we were expecting. looking forward to 2014.

Folks just gotta realize this is EWU's big rivalry game, sorta like the Cats coing to our house only more intense. There has NEVER been a year when it wasn't a super competitve game..... (or with meaning)

My $230 spent on 4 tickets for my wife, 13 yr old son, 9 yr old daughter and myself to sit in section I (not the student section) amongst 20 or so other Griz fans to be subjected to 3.5 hours of (FTG, sheep fucker, child rapist, jizz on the Griz, sit down you suck) directed directly at us. This former EWU cheerleader
EWU_Cheerleaders_3.jpg
and her boyfriend were responsible for much of it. Another 50 yr old+ Ewu fan found it appropriate to reach forward and ring his cowbells directly in the ears of some Griz fans 3 rows below us.

With fan antics like that its not surprising that Chaves appears to be the only AD in the BSC who doesn't have his email shown on the staff directory on their athletics web page.

Some of you are delusional. I'll tell you what, if you can't handle Eastern's fans, don't ever try to go to a University of Oregon game. That's a hostile crowd, man. People throw stuff at you. Once a guy even tried to piss on me (seriously, and inside the stadium, no less).

Frankly, I've seen pretty bad behaviour at Montana too. You can't let it get to you. Kids or alumni get drunk and run their mouth. I'm a pretty big dude, so usually I see people being dipshits to one another, but they seldom get too lippy with me.

That said, I will say Cheney has an unusual "shitkicker" culture that I actually really like. If you try to offend someone, you will get dough popped. It's pretty simple. Yet it's not a gangy culture, just one where fighting isn't considered all that big of a deal. If you go out to the bars in Cheney, you'll probably see a scrap... I always thought this was normal growing up in it, but moving to Portland let me experience what a "soft" city was like.
