Chalich to be a Griz

The same way you can offer any scholarship. You do realize that the current staff will make the decisions until a new coach is announced, they can not just sit around and wait.

I do, but with the amount of scholarship QB's on the roster, even with Gus's moving on" I think it's messing with the next staff's ability to shape the roster as they see fit. "To me" an uneducated bystander, you keep those spots for inpact players - perhaps QB's - but that's for the next staff to decide. Unless they are getting an incredible player, they need to back off. Hopefully Haslam will make a quick decision and the new coach can make all these decisions.

Who is to say that QB's already on the roster will fit what a new coach wants to do? Who says all the current verbals will fit? I think you are getting way to worked up about the entire deal, it is still the current staff's job to get the best players they can, and if they believe that giving a scholarship to a transfer player is a chance to upgrade the roster, what is the big deal. My guess is that it will be the first part of January before a new coach is hired unless they promote an assistant.

I agree with what your saying, who knows.. But I'd rather the new coach makes those decisions, than the current ones. It's the same bitch everyone had when the center was let go with TD's B-ball team. He had his reasons. No one made up his mind for him. I'd prefer the new coaches have some latitude, that's where I get nervous. Perhaps they already know were they're headed.. That makes me nervous, yes that makes me an ass, but maybe not.

When you have a chance to get a player as good as Chalich, you go for it. Period. The Griz put a major effort in recruiting him out of CDA and it may have paid off later. He started for Idaho as a freshman until he was hurt. Then a major Petrino QB controversy; their loss is our gain if the deal is completed. He would be the only QB on our roster with any experience going into Spring Ball.

This guy is nothing to get excited about. Comparing him to Miller and Ochs is like comparing Barry Obama to Teddy Roosevelt.

Or comparing monte to anyone with an IQ over 80.
if he was from Montana then Monte would be all over this move,

This post was intended to refer to the poster monte is a character, not our 'beloved' mascot. I'm sure our mascot Monte is infinitely smarter than the poster usurping his name!!

I was disappointed we missed when he came out of HS. I didn't know we were even recruiting him very hard but am glad he will be joining us now. I figured he would be great for the Griz once JJ left. Not knowing anything about the UI situation, it seems there are some major issues going on down there. If he wins the job, I think Griz fans are going to be very happy with us getting him. His skill set is very close to JJ's.

So sell us on Chalich if you would. I keep asking myself why we want a guy who lost his job on an absolutely terrible team and is known to be too hurt to play. I haven't seen him play and don't know much about him, so I'm just wonderin'..... You seem familiar with him.

I know nothing about the kid. But if our coaches get him that is great. We will have a damn good team next season and if he can play and be part of that, I am all for it!

Just spent a little time reading the Vandals board. Most seem to have positive things to say and regret but understand his reasons for transferring; change of coaching, lack of playing time, etc. Sounds like a quality guy

I'll give that a look. Thanks.

I stated this earlier,

if I were to go off of High School stuff I thought Chalich and Simis are fairly equal in terms of ability. I happen to like Simis more because of his leadership and his command of offense and his team. I was left really impressed of how Simis played the part.

I think Chalich might be the best physical athlete of the quarterbacks, with Simis a close second. Chalich and Simis probably are the most adept at handling any offense that the new coach would want, whereas Plfug probably seems best suited for spread and Weyer more of a pro-style drop back kid.

Just my two cents.

We're adding actual playing experience to a position that would of had virtually none otherwise. That alone makes this a big positive. Nevermind the fact that he's rather good

with pflug, simis and chalich on the roster, it looks to me like the some form of spread offense for a long time to come,,,,i know for sure that at the f.b.s. level, there will not be five qbs on full scholarship, I would expect that gustufson and wyer to transfer, unless they can play another position.....just my opinion.....I really like the two from Montana as well,,very good qbs and very good students......we wait and see how it all shakes out...go griz ! .....a pretty good problem to have for the next coach.....

Throw him in the mix during spring camp and see what happens. There's not a coach at any level who doesn't want a large contingent of quarterbacks to choose from when coming to a new program. Having a guy like Chalich in the mix, along with our other qb's already on the roster, is a plus. Whoever our next coach is will have a tough decision to make, but I am confident he will make the right choice. I predict the Griz are on the front end of a long run of greatness.

The injury sustained by Chalich was to his shoulder of his throwing arm, which was considered a season-ending injury, so I don't know to what extent that affects his passing these days. Hope he has fully recovered, regardless of whether he joins the Griz or otherwise: < http://www.idahostatesman.com/2014/04/24/3151264/embracing-the-qb-battle.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He did start and did very well until he got injured...Petrino benched him every time he ran out of bounds instead of lowering his head. He didn't get a fair shot this year. Linehan was Petrino's recruit and has the last name and it's obvious that he was starting him no matter what. The only win Idaho has had this year was when Linehan went out with a concussion early in the first quarter and Chalich took over. Chalich is a great quarterback and a warrior and you guys are lucky to get him.
