Chadron State @ Montana State Game Thread

Get out of here. The Cats looked pretty good? No way. The Cats looked pretty weak. Chadron isn't very good. It was 6-3 Cats after the first quarter. Glad the Cats were able to "get some revenge" against Chadron. This is the no. 4 team in the nation? Under the lights? Sellout crowd? Looked sorta embarrassing to me. The Cats are going nowhere this year, unless they got alot better than this.

I'll agree that they didn't look that great, however if their o-line problems get better then they're going to drastically improve. Their linebackers are small, as well as their d-line and that will lead to problems. I'm sure the special teams will improve once they get that one kid back who was suspended...their returner is pretty electric if he can figure out how to stop making dumbass mistakes.

Anyways, it's the first game of the year, I'm sure they'll improve. Hell, look at how much we improved from the beginning of last year to the end.

You're a dunce if you can't see past the first game. You guys looked like dog shit against Central Washington and ended up just fine. Get your head out of your ass.

Tell you what, after watching that game I feel MUCH better about our Oline. And we thought we were inexperienced! IF they don't drastically improve before the first decent defense they play they will have no chance running between the tackles. Only time will tell, and congratulations to the cats for taking care of business at home.

Well, we sure beat the shit out of the Cats

Eh, not the best performance. But I have to laugh when some are already ringing the death bell for MSU. Totally new offensive scheme is just taking hold and you're nitpicking? How about the performance last year against Central Washington? I predict a very entertaining year ahead :thumb:

We didn't play Central Washington last year. And the year we did play them they had a QB and TE both in NFL camps. If you think Chadron was a pretty big and physical team you guys are in trouble. Your lineman are lightweight softies. I know Coach Mac is a good guy but he can't save you this year. Ash needs to learn how to recruit lineman.

Top 5 team???  with the way you get pushed around up front top five in the Big Sky seems way more realistic

The quote "a win is a win" drives me nuts...As a die hard CAT fan, this game made me very nervous. Our O-line better figure it out soon, or we are in a world of hurt. We went 3 and out WAY to many times against a team that was no way near as good as we are. "A win is a win". Fuck that. Improve or be left behind.

This. The 3 & outs along with the o-line play were the big things that I noticed the Cats struggled with against a much less talented Chadron State team. It is definitely something MSU will need to address in order to stop Big Sky defenses from running all over them.

And I agree with you on the "A win is a win" statement. To me, that statement is saying, "We played like crap, but hey, that's ok. We still got the win!" As a die hard Griz fan, I'm grateful to get a win if the Griz play like crap, but not happy because there are obviously problems that need to be corrected before an opponent takes advantage of those weaknesses.

You get it. This game does not define the season but getting beat up physically in the trenches is much different than mental mistakes, missed tackles, or dropped passes.

I believe they meant Western Oregon, a 6-5 DII team whom the Griz beat in week 10 of last season 32-7. Last I check the Griz had a pretty decent season a year ago. So I think it is a little early to for idiot Griz fans to be given us their typical clueless evaluations. Was it a great game. No. Alot of mental errors and plenty of work to be done. But does it tell anyone anything about how the season will go. The answer is No.

No one is saying you are automatically going to suck.

But go ahead and pretend like you're not worried about your O-line getting manhandled by a bunch of DII guys.

News flash: our O-line wasn't embarrassed against Western Oregon last year.

Cat Fans - you have a problem and it is not just a little problem that scheming or adjustments will solve. Your O Line is going to get pummeled this year and this is before any injuries have even occurred. Given the speed and size difference between a D2 and some Big Sky opponents - you have a very big problem. Your defense did look good, but they are going to get awfully tired if three and out becomes the norm. I will give you that a new offense was being run and your o line is young.

So I went to the game.

First: The guy in the Griz shirt was probably Alpha. I think throughout the day I saw about 4-5 people wearing Griz gear. I brought mine up but after hearing crap the whole trip up I switched to a yellow shirt. I now regret it as I received grief from my Griz friends.

Second: Wow this game was boring. Denarius looked good scrambling. But that is also a bad sign as he seemed to be scrambling quite a bit. Probably won't work against faster linemen and backers. His longer passes didn't look too sharp. WRs had a ton of drops. It seemed like every time they crossed the middle they must've heard the footsteps of Caleb McSurdy because they took their eyes off the ball. The oline looked small and porous. Honestly seemed like Chadron St had a better oline. Cody Kirk didn't seem impressive. O Davis did. Even though Kirk ended up having a better ypc. I was really hoping they would try a FG. Blocking was horrible. Cats D looked good but Chadron St was so one dimensional. Their QB was seriously 5'6''. Cats did not have to worry about him trying to throw deep because he couldn't see over the line. Dline seemed to get pushed back quite a bit. Minter is still a beast though. I know it was the first game and there were probably some nerves but I did not leave the game impressed with the cats at all. Stadium looked good and was loud. You could tell it was affecting Chadron St. Perfect night for a game!

I was there too. My thoughts.

Cats O looked pretty good. I think they held back a bit and couple be much more explosive. The O-Line is questionable, at best. Undersized, and not that quick-footed for what I expected from Mac. Wiedennar (sp?) would get absolutely destroyed by a Josh Harris at this point. Their backfield is very solid and the receiving corp is good too. Black Jesus is what he is.

Cats D also looked good, but the Chadron offense was as bad as I have seen in person in some time. Think Fort Lewis. Minter is unreal. He might be the best defensive player in the conference. Not smack, but Jody Owens is the most overrated player I have seen in sometime. He actually had me frustrated a couple times.

I was at the game
- Davis needs to be the starting tailback
- Chadron had the worst passing game I've seen since North Dakota in 2010
- Minter is good
