Central Ty Gregorak discussion thread

Ty is a good man and good coach and he needs to do what is best for him. This may have been a move he needed to make due to job security concerns. At a function the week of the 2014 Cat-Griz game he gave an inspired speech about how much he did not not like the cats.

Now, all he has to do is deliver the same speech and change the name from Cats to griz, and he's set. In coach world, you always love your currently lover...until the breakup and then is on to the next one. He's now in love with the Cats! I'll bet you don't see him sporting anymore griz gear because now he's blue and gold baby!

Seeing you guys rejoice over our castaways is fun...he's a good coach and better than most DCs in FCS. But you guys sure haven't found an identity yet, that's for sure. Keep an eye on the Griz in the next few years. It's gonna be fun.

I agree on almost all points, except the "our castaways" comment. Did you castaway Gregorak? I thought he "walked away"! Yes, it's going to be fun!

It may or may not have been an "encouraged walkaway." I hope he can help make that soup sandwich of a program into something respectable. :thumb:

From the sounds of it, he was on his way out early on, and Stitt did nothing but encourage the distance. I think Stitt has wanted this from day 1, and now he is happily in charge. The spotlight is too narrow for him and there can be no pretenders to his throne while he is there.

On Gregorak, his job is not to make the MSU program respectable...but to make the defense, defensive. Choate has the task of fine tuning the program.

On a side note: doesn't your wife want you in bed?

I think all of that is likely correct; even the side note.

I think you have it about right. My guess is that both programs are strengthened by this. Stitt was hired to build the program back to a dominant one. I'm looking forward to the ride knowing it will ruffle some feathers. At the end of the day, nobody will be able to say he didn't try. After the first season and seeing his stubborness and recruiting prowess, I have high hopes. If I wasn't a big fan of Semore I might be speechless, but it makes sense to me, at least. The Cats D will be better soon, but the Griz are several steps ahead, especially in talent, just like it was in the old days. And we're bringing in another whopper of a recruiting class.

Speculative audio about Ty Gregorak and also some perspective about Dakota Prukop at the end. Audio is from the latest installment of Tootell and Tucker, ESPN radio show out of missoula. Second from the top.

Link alone tells me it's speculative...Colon not a friend of the Griz.
Your loss man. Colter does a great job covering the BSC, and it seems to me that he is very impartial and just tells it how it is. The hosts of the show are definite griz homers though, but it's their show in Missoula so I can't complain

I have yet to understand why all Cat fans continue to say Stitt is arrogant and doesnt allow others to take praise???? Than again I think theyre scared of B Hauck part 2... I have yet to get that impression about Stitt.

In my opinion he does football waaaaaay different than most coaches. It is HIS way and HIS program. I could see how he comes off as being someone whom is always in the spotlight with his new program, but in my opinion thats kind of what the new guy needs to do those first 1-2 years. He needs to show the public its his show and that hes in charge.......than again I'm of the group that doesnt mind a coach that chirps a little bit i.e. twitter and the press.

It's time for old Umista to jump into this debacle of a Gregorak thread with some worn out comments that have been previously stated over and over. So, I will state some junk stuff on the same topic.

Knowing Gregorak was not happy from day one regarding coach Stitt's hire I observed the dislike first hand after visiting with Ty early last summer. From my experience of hiring many people in my companies I thought at the time trouble would be coming between Stitt and Gregorak. I like Ty and I stuck up for him during his time as a Griz coach and I thought he did a good job. Ty is NOT a deep thinker and is more of a "raw raw" coach. His "scull and x-bones black flag" and the "dark side" along with his black tee shirt etc. were big parts of his coaching and it related very well with the young men he was leading. The kids he coached liked him. He probably was a bit imature and got the kids to play hard but that was a good thing. He REALLY liked the LB position and felt that position was the key to the entire defense. Like I mentioned he was not a good technician concerning the over all defense but good enough and I liked him for his ability to get the kids to play hard.

Kndice Gregorak was very unhappy she was not selected to be the Griz vollyball coach and not even in the final selection group. Her dislike of Haslam was obvious and might have been another nudge that pushed Ty to move to Catville.

Coach Delaney was a part of Gregorak's decission to make the move. Mick knew of the problem Ty was having with coach Stitt and assisted with this move. Enough said. I have zero problem with this and in the end it is a good thing for everyone.

Coach Stitt is a team coach. He does not want to be each players friend, instead their coach. Delaney like Gregorak liked the friend buddy buddy approach. Right or wrong each coach in the world has different approaches. Coach Stitt will name (he already knows) his Defensive coach soon.

My take on all of this? We are just fine and I tend to think a couple more years will prove out that fact. Stitt is a smart man. Can he coach? We will know after 2 more years. I have talked with Stitt and my guess is he can be a very good Griz coach. In the meantime Gregorak is happy and msu is giddy with glee. My wife who knows both men thinks it's a win-win for everyone.

Players also disliked Bobby...he did alright as a coach.

I dunno about that a lot of my player friends loved playing for Bobby, they said he took the time to learn everyone's name and something about them. I think Bobby was a hard ass but also a players coach, but thats just second hand information. I defer to someone who actually was in the lockerroom

he was VERY loyal to um and did an excellent job considering he's always liked Bozeman better...

good for him, Kandice and family!

There is little doubt in my mind that Gregorak KNEW from day One he was on a 1 year bubble and was retained NOT because of his coaching but because of his ability to recruit and provide some continuity to the program. Don't forget for a minute that Stitt brought his DC with him. As one watched the D change this year, one would have to be a fool not to figure out what was going on..... I'm sorry but I have all the respect in the world for Gregorak for giving his all till the last minute of the last Day. Going to the cats? Hey the mans first loyalty is his family... Why not, and whether or not anyone likes it a coaches loyalty to a program is directly proportional to who is PAYING him. He is selling his services and talent.

Agreed with all of this. I have ZERO problem with Gregorak going to the 'scats. His wife was able to find employment there as well, and that's a HUGE deal in my book. He was good for this team while he was here, and I expect Semore to be even better.

Movin' on....
