Just listened to the Fields explanation on TheFan. His voice inflection was "Oh, God, I'm dead, how am I going to spin this?" He only perked up when the interview was ending. The radio program has to call HIM. He should have made this announcement Friday and got ahead of the oncoming outcry. He didn't say what cupcake FCS team is coming to Bozeman, but you can be sure MSU believes this will be a home game win. I think the odds of ever scheduling NDSU again are zero. Two three year postponements, then a buyout. Lame. Fields said it wasn't HIS decision, alone, so he is covering his ASH. Amazing, but not atypical.

Actually the AD from NDSU asked Fields to not make it public Friday. It sucks but it figures to give
us one more home game and gives our Texas boys a home game.

I'm surprised that Fields didn't postpone the interview until next week, at which time he could either delay again or cancel alltogehter.

I don't have a dog in this fight, and frankly wish it would get the eff off our board.

But that was pretty damn funny!

This whole thing may be entertaining for Bobcat fans, but this whole thing is going to cost NDSU $200,000. That pisses me off . . . what so the MSU quarterback can play in TX, twice? I'm glad that all MSU cares about is pissing on contracts and getting home games vs DII's. This whole thing stinks, and this is a shit move if you ask me.

If the shoe is on the other foot, I'm equally pissed off. It would be a shit move if NDSU had done it. I'm glad this is entertaining for Bobcat fans, and they think that NDSU paying $200,000 out of pocket because of an MSU whim so your QB can play in TX (twice) is a bunch of whining.

It's that simple, MSU picks up the phone and costs NDSU $200,000. How can you make a business move like that in your right mind. Taylor should punch the guy in the nose and tell him to goto hell for making a selfish move like that. Did MSU pay for NDSU's trip in 2005? Are things that pathetic at MSU that they can't travel to a neighborhing state? Ya, NDSU is just whining, no bit deal!

Your post on the reason for the buyout is totally incorrect. If you want to see the real reasons, which make good business sense for MSU and the community of Bozeman, go over to BN and read the thread over there. The accurate info is given there. If you want to keep spewing false information then don't bother!

You think that I don't know the facts? I know the facts. MSU is going to make more money playing a DII at home and SMU on the road than honoring they return trip to NDSU. And NDSU is going to have to go on the road or pay for another game for upwards of 200-300k. But, as PF repeated over and over, MSU only looks at things from their own perspective. So screw the fact that this is costing NDSU 200k to bring in another team, who really cares. Is that the facts you were looking for? Is MSU going to do anything to make sure their decision doesn't cost NDSU 200,000 bucks? Selfish bastards, that's all I have to say. Doing somethat selfish would not have occurred to Taylor, the game would have been played.

I will say this slowly so you understand.

MSU and NDSU inked a contract in which BOTH teams agreed. MSU exercised an option in said contract. Because NDSU didn't put in language that stated a time in which a buyout was not allowed it is on them.

So, I ask you, why bitch? As a fan, yes, it sucks. But the constant bitching does nothing but make NDSU fans look like 5 year olds that didn't get the ice cream treat. Don't be pissed with MSU fans, their AD, or the school, you SHOULD be pissed with your legal team and the AD.

BisoNation isnt' whining, just stating how pathetic it was of msu to do this. Total lack of class.

Plus, no reason to get mad at bisonation for being over here on your board, with back to back national title's the fanbase travels everywhere, apparently online as well.

You still have it incorrect Herd. The objective was to get a sixth home game against an FCS which will generate $500,000 for the school and millions for the community of Bozeman. The money rec'd from SMU pays to bring a school in for the sixth home game. Ashamed is right, your AD signed that contract. The MSU AD is getting paid to do what's best for MSU. Stop whining dude. It's all about business. Nothing more or nothing less. That's what ADs get paid to do.

:argue: :dead: In the end the cats lose out by not playing this game..

Home Game= $500,000.00
Championship= Priceless
Gotta play the best to be the best 8-)

Bozeman State did nothing wrong legally. But, ethically, the way they delayed the game over and over, the canceled at the final hour was......wrong. Fields should have started working a lot sooner than 6 months before the game if he was looking out for the Bozeman economy.

Home game-$500,000, help Bozeman community by filling hotels, bars ,resturaunts and retail stores. Also help fund planned stadium expansion.

Play FBS SMU in Dallas-reward Texas seniors and attract more TX recruits, fans get to party in Dallas vs. Fargo

Championship-beating NDSU in the playoffs!

Grizd, I am sure they have been working on the schedule for at least the last 6 months. Unfortunately things change. That's why you have buy-out clauses in contracts. In this case the contract had time frames that spanned years. If anything that was a mistake to enter a contract like that. As stated above it was a lot more than Bozeman's economy.

you could say that, but you could also say that fields took as long as he did because he was making a good faith effort to keep the m.s.u. vs. n.d.s.u. game in tact.

Has it ever been mentioned who initiated the approach regarding the SMU game? Was it MSEuliss or was it SMU that came up with the idea?

Looks like to me if MSU couldn't return 1 game to NDSU in 8 years that Fields had no intentions to go to NDSU ever. Basically he just waited until the buyout number low enough(keep in mind that the $100,000 was signed back in 2009) to get another game. When that finally happened he pulled the trigger.

Funny thing is that Fields says he is friends with NDSU's AD Gene Taylor. Is this how you treat a friend?Gene Taylor has said if they was done months ago he could at least understand it but as said earlier canceling so late in the game is what makes he upset and rightfully so.

I saw the MSU schedule released and there must be a mistake. I didn't see the quarterfinal loss listed anywhere. Team to be determined.

They better hope it's not NDSU.

Is that correct? I haven't read all of this glorious thread but a newscaster said last night that MSU has to pay the D2 $200 and NDSU $100 and will get $300 from SMU. He made it sound like, on paper, MSU will only break even in this deal. Fields was interviewed and he made it sound like money was not the main reason; instead they did this to get another THR home game (at night?) and a homecoming trip for the texas lads.
