Cats buyout game vs NDSU

I wonder who initiated the contact regarding a game, SMU or MSEuliss? If it was MSEuliss than it looks pretty chicken s**t. Has MSEuliss approached NDSU about scheduling a replacement game in the near future? They honestly should do so as a matter of the high integrity Ash keeps preaching.
This matter carries a bad stench from the MSEuliss crew as far as I can tell.
It could be a good time for Montanan's to request the cats remove the M from their helmets and put cats back on. A Montana team should man up and honor their contract with the Bison.
I agree this is a sh!t move, but wouldn't using the buyout clause be considered honoring the contract since that is a viable option?

Buyout clauses exist for good reasons. Like to keep one game from preventing scheduling of better options.

They also prevent beat downs.....

Goat Creek, if we are the king of the losers, what does that say about the Griz losing to the Cats the last two of three years. Why would App St. back out. They are traveling to play a team with a losing record last year.

I need to take that Selective Fractions 101 class MSU clearly offers.

Yep,

2 of 3....2 of 4....2 of 5....2 of 6....2 of 7

5 of 11 since the streak ended! Way to go Cats!

SMU will likely beat down the cats but remember they are FBS a whole different playing field. If the cats lose to SMU then it is expected. When the cats lose to NDSU it is significant in their standings and status.
Hell the cats haven't even won the BSC outright in decades. They have managed to slide on in as co champs.

It's not about the "almighty $", recruiting, or getting guys home. It's fear of getting smoked by NDSU. If the cats believed they could compete with and beat NDSU, this buyout doesn't happen. A win at the defending champs is worth way more than whatever SMU pays or any recruiting advantages that may come with a trip to Texas.

The pussies are what we thought they were!

I am assuming that SMU will beat the Cats much worse than the Bison

agree SMU is the tougher game but MSU will get another home FCS game out of the deal that they would not get with the NDSU game still on the schedule

I can't figure out for the life of me why the Cat's schedule wasn't completed months ago like almost everyother BSC school, any thoughts?

This is a post from BN:
Look at the economics of this decision and see how it was an no-brainer:

For MSU to go to Fargo on charter (bus not feasible due to distance):

loss of $85,000 (just chartering and the wait time are the largest expense)
vs.
paying $100,000 for buyout

A loss of $15,000 for doing the buyout with NDSU

For MSU to go to Dallas

-$100,000 for charter and hotels
but receive
+$350,000 for guarantee (+/-) $50,000

A gain of $250,000 to go to SMU

Net gain: $235,000 (+/-) $50,000

Should Fields have gone to Fargo and paid out $85,000 for travel, or should he have not chose SMU, whereby he forfeits a likely $235,000 gain?

Then takes that gain, uses it to get an FCS non-conference opponent to come to Bozeman, likely schedules the Bobcats an additional win. With a better record, MSU hosts at least one playoff game, something that nets Montana State profit.

Unless Montana State has the money from the FBS payout, they don't have the money to pay an FCS opponent to come to Bobcat Stadium. You play NDSU, you still end up having to play an FBS, you start 0-2 and you don't host a playoff game

I think the figures you're using are overstated. I'm pretty sure MSU would have made something like $200,000 (what Delaware State's getting), less costs, if they had gone to NDSU, or $350,000, less costs, to go to SMU. It is a higher payout by going to SMU, but the actual figure's probably closer to one-half of the $250,000 you're claiming.

A buy-out clause is legally defined as a "liquidated damage" clause, where the parties agreed up front that if MSU breached the agreement they would pay NDSU $100,000 in damages. Apparently NDSU's AD feels the agreed to damage figure is insufficient, but the parties did agree to it. On the other hand, Cat fans are stretching when they say MSU's "honored" the agreement. MSU determined they'd make more money if they breeched the agreement and paid damages than if they performed it.

Grizhunter, exercising the buyout does constitute honoring the contract but at this late time I think MSEuliss should try to tamper the damage done to NDSU by rescheduling another time down the road.
I still think a lot of this is about the cats not having the balls to face a real FCS power unlike those first and second rounders they have squeeked by in the playoffs the last few years.

The $100k buyout was probably normal in 2006. I would bet a buyout today would be a much larger amount. Sort of like allocating funds for a date six years later and expecting it to work out. This will cost NDSU a pile of cash. Second, what if the Bison cannot find a DI opponent? This could have huge impacts for the playoffs. Third, why would NDSU ever schedule another game with the Cats into the future? The Cats had 6 years to plan. The UND rationale is an excuse as all the others are. They should have the buyout value at the time of the contract and have it increase 10% each year to keep up with the changing times. Griz fans, I look forward to seeing you in Fargo. Please don't do the same. I presume your the classier act in Montana, but time will tell.

FYI, NDSU AD knew this was coming for quite a while. Not sure why they're acting so surprised.

i'm sorry...but what a stupid-ass post. how delusional are some of you?! please tell me gpsit...what could I as a FAN of the bobcats done differently to be more classy?! i seriously think some of you fans really think you are part of the program! it's asinine. i emailed fields simply to say i was disappointed in this decision. i wasn't rude and i didn't pretend to have all the information. i understand how buyouts work and even the very classy grizzlies and bison have bought out games before....and both will do it again.

seriously, some of you really need to take a good hard look and realize that no matter what kind of super-fan you think you are....you're still not part of the program. it's just ignorant. i and many other cat fans are annoyed at this decision but unfortunately none of us have a choice. remember how annoying cat fans were all those times griz were buying out games? (apparently to avoid being embarassed because i have learned that is the ONLY reason teams buy out games. )

we are fans. nothing more. nothing less..... :o

Pretty confident that you can count on the Griz in Fargo next year. Since we have a home & home arrangment with the Bison, the bigger chance of anyone buying out a game would be the Bison not returning to Washington Grizzly in 2015.
Go Griz!

Actually, fans have more to do and say than you think. Contact your AD or refuse to buy tickets1

So if the dakota schools want to play the montana schools so badly why did they decline the Big SKy invite?
We really couldnt care a less if we play montana schools. We care about reneging on a deal to play us in Fargo. You have bailed twice now. We honored our deal and went to Bozeman and played u guys. It's an honor and respect deal. As of two days ago we here in North Dakota thought Montana State would be the last team on the planet aside from the Griz to renege on a promise. It's absolutely embarrassing to think we used to hold the cats in high regard. You keep trying to come up with excuse after excuse but the fact remains that u are scared to get beat.

Good. Now we are even. We don't hold you in high regard either. The only good thing which ever came out of North Dakota was an oil pipeline.
Now your attacking our oil?? HaHaHa!!

Game on! Since part of the Bakken formation is in Eastern Montana, I call for the Gov. of Montana to immediately begin horizontal fracking to the east. We will drink your milkshake, NoDak!

As a Cat fan I am really disappointed I can't see the Cat's kick some butt in Fargo. It would have been great!
I have expressed my displeasure with Peter Fields.
