Didn't J.Nguyn muff one of his first punt returns this season? I cant remember who it was against, but im pretty sure the other team scored as a result.
It was a kickoff return. Gave me horrible flashbacks

Yeah it was against OK Panhandle

Canada seems to struggle running inside and seems to prefer getting outside the tackles. Nguyen has done well so far and I hope they continue to use him

Thats right. It gave me horrible flashbacks as well. I like the Nguyn brothers as RB's but not as much in the return game. It scared the hell out of me every time P.Nguyn returned a punt or kickoff, and I can't help but wonder if that's an area his brother struggles in as well.

Remember Nacaratto fumbled HIS first kick return also....I don't think he's dropped one since.

Like much of the Griz football team right now JC is banged up, and he's had a TON of carries in recent weeks. Nyguen is doing a nice job but I'm not gonna lie, Alpha got in my head during the Peter Nyguen days, because every time Lil' John totes it I'm scared he's going to fumble.

Bottom line, the Griz desperately need a 100 percent healthy Travon Van! Unfortunately, as high ankle sprains go, I'm concerned a 100 percent healthy Van won't be seen until spring ball.

I kind of like how John runs. He seems to run with a little bit of anger.

Agreed, this weekend is the perfect game to rest Canada and give John more touches no matter what Alpha says......he of "The Confederacy of Dunces."
Nguyen. N-guy-en. Yes, hope this is a great opportunity to get him touches, let Canada (and others) rest. Confederates be damned.

I prefer touchbacks to his returns, because he rarely gets close to the 25. I have yet to see a lot of talent in his returns.

I just wanted to clarify I was not whining about Canada nor believe he is a bad player. I think he is positive and had a big turn around from last year. When van was with him the two styles were dynamic. I really like what he did this week blocking. I was just wondering if anyone thought having john try and open it up more for Canada was a good idea or bad. Hopefully van comes back strong and the dynamic duo get back on track.

P. Nguyen lost a total of 4 fumbles his junior and seniors years, including the punt at Tennessee. Yes, you and many others let Alpha get in your head.

How many DIDN'T he lose?

I don't see how any of this is on john,,,let john write his own legacy,,,,good or not so good...

I agree. I think John runs angry, and 98% of the time seems to run with two hands over the football like a fullback.

Up to this point, I agree...although before about 3 weeks ago we hadn't seen a whole lot from EH's returns either, if memory serves.

edit: Damn. Now I have to go research this to see if we're wrong.

Being without 2 of our top 3 backs has forced Canada to carry more of the load than he should be, and maybe it's showing a little bit. Nothing against Nguyen but I think Van and Counts bring something that John doesn't, the homerun threat from Van and the quick-hit power up the middle from Counts. Without those two it has allowed the defenses to hone in on one running style and contain it, and made it harder for either one to find any room. We don't have anybody who I consider an every-down back, and losing 2 of our top 3 only exposes that more.

I will have to disagree with you about Nguyen. He has all the attributes that you want in a running back; he's quick and fast just like his brother Peter and also has a lot of power and a great BLOCKER. Van all he does is run west to east, Counts runs straight. If you think about Nguyen, hes mixed with everything a very good all around running back.

Yes he did muff his first punt return, but that was his Very first punt return in his entire football career. He never returned punts or kickoffs at Bellevue High, it was very odd seeing him out there...

Again, nothing against John, he's doing a good job filling in for the injured guys right now and will most likely be heavily involved in the run game with Counts and Favors in a couple years, but right now we need Van and Counts back...Van for his explosiveness and receiving skills, Counts for his change of pace power running. John runs hard, but Joey is a brute at 220 and gives us something none of our other backs do, a Moore-type presence. I've actually been impressed with John's play, we just need those guys on the field to give our offense more options.

I am a staunch advocate for Jordan Canada. He is feeling a lot of pain from lagging injuries. He has matured this year and has learned his roll on this team. He is fighting through the pain and I believe doing a great job considering. He needs a week off, however, we do not have that luxury. It would be nice if we could get up big on Weber so Canada could sit, (And JJ) but I don't forsee that happening.
Jordan is giving 100% effort this year and needs to be commended for it. He is a runner that has excelled in the spread, that is why he was brought here, now everyone wants him to be a pro style back and hit the holes inside, he doesn't excell at this, but he is learning. Even though he is hurting, I trust him with the ball way more than John Nguyen. Jordan, keep strong! And GO GRIZ!

I'm a big supporter of Canada too. I'm very impressed with how the kid keeps going and going and going, playing through "hurts," on the field on every play. He's a gutsy player, and I'm glad he's a Griz.

Of course you would trust him with the ball more than a Freshmen. That point was pointless to say.

More of the negative rushing yards Canada had was in the face of a real heavy blitz.

Another thing that I noticed a lot watching the game was how well he did in pass-protection. Would almost always pick up a blitzing backer or DB, many times taking them to the ground.
I'm glad you brought up Jordan's blocking. This has been the biggest improvement in Canada's game. He is becoming a really, really good blocker and has saved JJ from getting destroyed quite a few times this season.

what this dude said. his blocking was excellent on saturday. huge improvement here.
