Can Anyone Tell Me..................

About now this flim-flam "gwen florio" post should receive the death sentence!

If you don't like the Griz football team simply stay the hell away, perhaps in your own sqeaky clean house!

All this talk about due process and what sort of violation is too big a violation is BS. How about NO violations? How about you are told right up front when you participate in a sport at UM it is a PRIVILEGE...an HONOR, and if your name ends up in the paper, rightly or wrongly, you have embarrassed the University...and its going to be ...ciao...see ya later. Talk to us when you've resolved the problem.

So, dogman, you drive 30 in a 25 mph zone, and you're off the team, eh?

Don't be silly...you're name isn't going to make the paper unless you were doing at least 50mph in a 25mph zone. And then, I think you have shown bad judgement and maybe you're not smart enough to be in college.

I'd suggest stepping into the real world.

1. It is a privileg and honor to wear MONTANA across your chest, but that's a two way street - its an honor for our program to have the players we have in all sports. These kids sacrifice more than most posters ever realize to be a Griz.

2. So if Jordan Tripp makes the paper for getting a traffic citation, lets say a speeding ticket... he's off the team? That makes sense.

3. Lex Hilliard back in 2006 was falsely accused of assault by I believe an ex/babies mom. The intent was clear, maliciously get him in trouble with the team despite not actually "doing" anything. So wrongly accused, and quickly resolved... he should've been sent packing?

I think there's too much "grey" in some instances to make such broad decisions/policies.

haha, if driving 25 over the limit shows signs of not being smart enough to be in college... uh there'd be no one in college anymore.

If I'm the second-string running back, I'm sending anonymous complaints to the Missoulian about the starter!

I think "the good" this team and these kids do as a whole FAR outweighs the bad, however all of the community/civic action these boys take on and do doesn't sell newspapers.

WTF? how can the civic benefit of reading to 3rd graders far outweigh the damage done to a rape victim?

I hesitate to point out every scenario you guys have come up with is well covered in the new "code" and as should be out of the coaches hands. ( He can add to it of course) Had this change come from the athletic department as recently as a year ago before a well publicised investigation, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Two way street? How about that scholarship? How about all the extra remedial and academic help you need?

Did you read what I posted? if Jordan Tripp gets a speeding ticket for going 50mph in a 25mph zone...yeah..see ya...come talk to us when you pay your fine. How often would this have to happen before the athletes would see that playing sports at the U of M requires a little judgement and responsibility? This is the two way street...that's not asking much in return for what the school is offering...simply use good judgement and be responsible. I am afraid for some of these athletes their leadership has looked the other way, and have taught them the consequences of poor judgement and irresponsibility are few.

Well if you simplify it to that level, no it doesn't. No amount of work "cancels out" a rape.

If you look at the collective work that the whole team does, the amount people they support, assist, and mentor it has a very wide reaching impact. These guys do way more than just read to 3rd graders.

Not all of the team is on a scholly and many are only a partial of some sorts.

I agree though, good judgement and responsibility is key. I do believe that with a few select players the past consequences were probably not considered enough of a deterrent. I certainly don't think as a whole that the team beleives they can get away with anything and I still maintain that probably 95% or more of this squad are good kids with good judgement and no record/arrests/issues and they deserve support, encouragement, and shouldn't be treated like dogcrap by people who just assume the entire football team acts/thinks the same way.

No doubt about it...the good kids far out number the bad. I would wager that the "bad kids" were probably screw ups way before they ever came the U.

Duke lacrosse didnt have a decade of criminal activity. So it not even close to the same thing. The person that posted that is trying to spin the attention away from the real problem at UM.

He is part of the rape is ok crowd as long as the Griz win football games. It doesnt matter that we have had 26 reported incidents since 2005 and thats not including the multiple incidents that havent been reported. The numbers alone prove there is a problem at UM that simply doesnt happen every year at every other school.

The way some od you go out of your way to defend criminal behavior is sickening and way worse than rape.
