Brand Findings

Maybe, All Weather, but you can’t properly move forward before you solve existing problems.

True, but if Bodnar's first official action is to fire Engstrom as a chemistry professor based on what he did as president of the university, he'll have a completely new problem to solve.

Obviously, no one is going to fire Engstrom as a prof, nor should they, based on what I've heard about him recently as a prof.

Maybe they should have an "idea line" for fans/alum to give input on their thought on how to help with the brand

I was just responding to Spanky's proposed action.

Badlands, my view exactly with this guy who is a leech that has done considerable damage to UM. Maybe Bodnar will look into it and show him the door even if he has tenure.

You mean they could use our exceptional business school students to engage on a "real world" problem set? Perhaps we have some alum who design and implement world-class marketing strategies FOR A LIVING?

Probably wouldn't work.

Love that you guys got the sarcasm! I was a bit worried!

I've had some excellent professors that taught specific subjects, that would have done terribly in any sort of leadership position. Despite that, they were an asset to their school through their teachings and contributed to my ability to compete in my career after I was done. If Engstrom is a high caliber teacher, it would be silly to remove him from that limited role based on his failures as an administrator, especially if he is not hindering the new leaderships vision/strategy.

Chemistry is a field that evolves and changes at the speed of light. I'm concerned that Engstom's knowledge of the field is dated since he hasn't hardly taught or researched in 20 years and it's a full time job keeping up. The new (and cheaper) assistant professors can run circles around him.

you are of course assuming that any of the assistant professors are naturally good at teaching, which they may or may not be. also, i would think the 'basics' don't really change that fast. for instance, neuroscience is undoubtedly a faster moving field than chemistry, but i'm sure someone with a decent phd-level education from 20 years ago could pick it up and teach it ok at the lower levels.

in other words, you are just making stuff up again, and stating it in such an 'i'm right' way that some will buy into your nonsense.

I believe in Seth Bodnar very much and this will be difficult, But he will turn it around just as Bobby will turn our football program around. This is a great, great year for Montana!!

Not sure how it will be going forward with Bodnar, but up until this point, they haven’t been interested in the opinion of a certain professor who is a world-renown expert on brand management and marketing innovation.

Sure has worked out well...

Has the professor been interested in sharing, and was shut down? Hard to believe if you have talent in-house, they you’d go out of their way to ignore it if the individual offered assistance. The vast majority of pieces & programs I’ve seen are well within the borders of amateur.

Yup. They weren’t interested.

Can't imagine UM couldn't find a Masters or Doctoral candidate to do his Thesis or Dissertation on this subject. The work produced is examined from start to finish by several Doctoral faculty. Apparently, NO effort was made in this direction. But then, give the level of administrative oversight available at the time, it IS explainable.
