I have family in Minnesota who have had their kids recruited by NDSU and UMinn, and I know how they sell NDSU over UMinn.

NDSU and Alabama win because of one primary factor: recruiting. No need to explain anything about Alabama's recruiting edge. When NDSU was D-II, they were able to recruit FCS talent. At FCS level they recruit D-I talent. They loaded in the trenches with Big Ten caliber players from Minnesota who didn't want to play for the lowly Gophers and could stay close to home. Did you know Minnesota kids can go to Wis, Iowa, ND and SD schools at in state tuition due to reciprocity agreements? That's gotta help with the athletic budget and PFO's. Once you have the best players and good coaches, you win. You are correct about the defensive side of the ball, but from what I saw of their offense, NDSU's talent on offense could have run any offense and succeeded. We get a defensive makeup of players and scheme that can cause the offense to go 3 and out on their first 5 drives every game instead of giving up TD's every first drive and we take all the pressure off the offense. Denver's defense won the Superbowl. It's O was just serviceable. I'm OK with plugging holes with transfers on the D until Stitt's recruits work into starting positions.

I disagree 100%. It is a crapshoot every year. UNI constantly has draft picks NDSU doesn't sign. David Johnson would have looked great in green and gold.
