Being a former player of Coach Keller maybe I can bring some insight to this discussion. There is no doubt in my mind he was one of the best high-school coaches in the history of this state. He got the most out of his players, just flat out knew how to win. (610-180) From my experience, there are three reasons why people dislike him. 1. They got cut by him in High School. 2. They were soft and couldn’t take an a$$ ripping. 3. They couldn’t beat Helena High in high-school. Tell me what good coach doesn’t get accused of the previously mentioned? If any of you haters can’t handle that, maybe you should move your spectating to the Middle-School or Y.M.C.A level. Monthoops also said “They (Carroll) 'hired' him as a volunteer....he's not on the payroll. Personally I think that's the dumbest thing that Turcott has ever done.” Yea…pretty dumb seeings how they’re sitting on top of the league with only one real conference test (vs. Western) left. How many people out there can say they quit their day job, to volunteer doing the same thing, at a lower status (volunteer assistant) elsewhere? As for the question at hand, the toughest coaches we played against when I played were definitely Eric Hays from Hellgate, and Mike Cole from Bozeman. I also think Thatcher is presently doing a fine job in Butte. With the success those two have had in Missoula and Bozeman, they still haven’t put out as many college players the last 5, 6, 7 years than Steve Keller- something to think about.
