So ESPN decided to go to Cheney, so the rest of the country continues to think FCS is shit after the Eagles pack 5 thousand into that game? GREAT
EWU is a more accurate representation than UM of what FCS is. And they're a better team.

If by better representation you mean a shit stadium with a shit fanbase..than I guess your right, I don't know why the NCAA would want to highlight that though.

Fargo Dome Vs Inferno... this should be a no brainer.

I think you are putting too much stock into stadium and fan size with regards to FCS respect. Few fans will think "FCS is shit," because of number of fans or stadium. FCS>FBS wins brings the respect. FCS got national attention early last year because of the upsets.

I think a close, hich-octane game is what is really important if a good image of FCS is the goal. Fans will care more about an exciting game than the size of the stadium. If facilities are discussed by fans watching the game, it will be the red field being talked about, not the small stadium. Hate it or love it, that will get the attention- not the small stadium size.

I hope the NDSU and UM get some national attention as well. Should be a good one.

Really? You don't think attention will be paid to the only football game on? You don't think attention will be paid to something that is on ESPN? I'd say we will be the beneficiary of being the "only game in town."

As for some national attention, Montana and NDSU screwed the pooch on this. Hell this will be the 1st football game of the year after a 7 month plus layoff, depending on which teams you follow or the Super Bowl. Millions will be jonesing for football. I honestly would be watching regardless which teams were playing.

I suppose we define the word "attention" differently. No big. Enjoy the attention.

Interesting. ESPN feels differently. :coffee:

“We saw the opportunity, saw the need and desire from a programming perspective, and we feel like we can get a significant audience for this game,” said Brent Colborne, ESPN's Director of Programming for NCAA championships.

“Come August 23, right before Labor Day, people are starving for college football. People are ready for football. This is a really cool opportunity to serve those fans.”

The irony here is that if the Griz were playing the first game of the college football season on ESPN1, you guys would be saying it's the best thing ever. ;)

That's because there'd actually be people watching. 8-) 8-)

Are you serious? What channel is the game on again? How often do you think ESPN's Director of Programming for NCAA championships says that not a lot of people will be attending or watching a game on ESPN?

There are a lot of Subaru salesmen who will tell you Subarus are great.

Haha, this is true, but ESPN wouldn't put this game on TV if they didn't think there was going to be an audience. Its a chance for EWU to market themselves and showcase their program across the country, not just in Spokane. EWU recruits a lot of skill position players from California and Western Washington, this gives a chance for these areas to see this game.

There are very few negatives and a ton of positives that come out of this. Whats the alternative?... playing the game in Cheney in September when it was regularly scheduled and no one will see it....

I would think most Griz fans would want this to go well, if it does, ESPN will probably do this again in 2015, and the Griz/NDSU matchup is probably perfect for that slot. If the EWU game is a flop, ESPN probably doesn't do this again...

Yeah, you got that right. It's hard for Griz fans to accept that they're not necessarily the center of the FCS universe, and that this game won't be showcasing their self-proclaimed loudest stadium in this or any other universe.

This game will be more viewed than the FCS Championship Game.

I think you're right. It's the only game on, so I think the number of viewers will be the same as the Super Bowl. Maybe higher since Brent Colborne said people will be starving for football at that time.

The question that still remains is will ESPN promote this game to kick off the football season to give the FCS more exposure, or will all the talk be about the FBS with "oh by the way, there's an FCS football game on right now if you're interested"?
