App St/msu

Not taking anything away from McQueary cause he is a beast and I'm sure will be great, but one common theme amongst Cat posters this month has been "MSU's backups are better than the starters". I'm wondering why those guys don't actually win the job in fall camp then? The MSU depth chart doesn't reflect these assertions by some MSU fans, with the exceptions of season-ending injuries. I've seen people say Coe is better than Gale, Foster and Vunipola better than Na', and more recently Brekke and McQueary are better than them all. Why aren't they winning the starting jobs if they are indeed THE BEST PLAYERS? It makes no sense. I always thought at this level, and especially at MSU, which has supposedly ascended to the second-best program in the FCS, feelings, grade or age weren't considered when it comes to playing time. If McQueary is better than DM, why wouldn't he play? If Brekke is the best running back in camp, why is he listed fourth on the depth chart? Don't the best players on the team play and help win football games?

That's what happens when you're a powerhouse with 3 NCs. I'm actually going to go ahead and give them the NC for last year too. They basically would have won probably if it wasn't for some football related things, so they now have 4 NCs. With 4 NCs, you don't have to play your best players. It's a statement.

Funny tidbit about "cat fans"... they were nowhere to be found before "the streak" ended.

When they finally got that win... wow, did they ever come out of the woodwork. One would be very hard pressed to find any sCat fan board or even a handful of posts prior to that time. MAYBE one of them remembers 'escribe', but that'd be about it.
After DM retires and the scats start producing losing seasons again, the Litterbox and BN will be empty once again.

The Cats are set at QB for many years. The true freshman Quinn McQueary may be the best yet. Ash said he is the best incoming freshman he has seen in his 30 years of coaching with the skiils he already has.

You mean that same kid who threw six INT's in a Class C playoff game to end his HS career? :thumb:

Havgrizfan, I don't think anyone said that McQueary is better than DM. If they did that person is a real fool.

Nobody said Quinn was better than DM. Before his career is over he may be the best. Time will tell. He came into camp this year as a freshman with excellent basic skills like footwork, mobility and just overall fundamentals.

News flash to all you griz know it alls. McQueary played for Manhattan and that would be a Class B school not a class C school.

Those picks were clearly due to poor pass protection. He won't have that problem at Montana A&M where the cupboard is always full.

Didn't McQueary get the MVP in the Shrine game in Butte. People who were there say he was a beast in that game.

Good point. And everyone should know that you only get five picks per game in Class B.

The outright BEATINGS the cat fans have taken in this thread would be considered a hate crime anywhere else.............(except in Oklahoma and Spokane)

Almost worse than the beatings they take on the football field.

So, he can't read a Class B defense, but he's all-world according to Ash?

 Hey, he got me AZ!....Congrats Cat fans! Let us bow at your accomplishments!

Sorry, but that's the difference. You've got a slightly better record over past 3 years. But I think your touting of the MSU "accomplishments" shows the difference in MSU relative to App St / Montana. As slight as the advantages you list are in these areas over this small window of time, you're bragging of your "accomplishments" while at the same time App St / Griz fans would, nay, DO consider the past 3 years a failure for not meeting expectations.

Outside of 1984 (29 years ago), these are your glory days! 1 more win in the playoffs, no semi's, no finals, no championships on a national level & sharing the conf title 2 of the 3 years. Congrats on the low bar of futility you have set and continue to maintain! :thumb:

I am not taking anything away from what App or UM have accomplished, both have history that few can compare over the the longer run. But the OP was about comparison to App and MSU and since there is an upcoming game UM is included. My only comment is that over the last 3 years MSU has outperformed both, the only data point that you can find otherwise was that UM made a run to the semifinals before falling to the same team MSU did the week before. To deny it just makes you look silly. App will move on to become somebody's bitch in the FBS and the jury is still out on how UM will do.

Ash also said anymore injuries on defense would become unmanageable.

Well then, the Ashhole can be thankful that this rash of injuries is piling up now, as opposed to the beginning of the season.

And that is saying something because Jack Mehoffer, Dick Hurtz, and Phil McKracken were all time QBs at Juanita College. Ash says McQuererery is better than any freshman he's coached.

EDIT: I guess Hurtz might have been a transfer at Juanita, which means he wouldn't have played for Ash as a frosh.
