It's almost like people talk about it like they have never heard of it. Where are my favorite posters Everett hammertime and unmista? In the words Bart Scott "can't wait!"
GrizLA said:Well, Moose...much of that money comes from people like me and the taxpayers, along with student fees. No one has asserted that football is causing anything. What Athletics is doing is draining funds needed for some very basic things, like countering over crowded classes and shortages of classes, etc...By the way, you're right, this is my opinion, but unlike your "facts", the fact is medical schools are not "trolling" as you say, but searching for cash customers. The rejection rate of US med schools is mindboggling...if you think Montana has adequate med care in the 21st century, you are one very misguided person, and if you actually do live in Tejas, the shortage of doctors in rural areas and smaller towns is severe....you can dig up facts, but opinions are some thing else. Football is being played at the right level in Montana. The spending on other sports is about where it should be, but is the spending per capita subsidized? And, by whom? As for California, you can believe whatever you wish. I do well, my neighbors do well, my city is doing well, my county is doing well. As for our universities, they are still among the very best and cheapest in the world. Ain't that a pisser.? the state government might be broke or say they are, and do all they can to get more money, but the majority of the people are not. Sorry to disappoint you.moose/squirrel said:GrizLA said:Before millions are spent on "move up", maybe the entire academic side of UM could benefit by increased spending on academics....Montana is not Texas....they increase athletic budgets and cut teachers...UM is fine, just where it is. Build and finance a med school or create a vet school at MSU, then get back to spending money on football...txrider said:Yes prime, you missed it....as in the main idea of the piece. The point he is making is had there been strong leadership with a commitment to having Montana football excel to its highest level, UM may have been one of the the schools the Mountain West Conference would have offered. And.....wouldn't it be nice to actually show we could have competed on the same level as those other Rocky Mountain institutions plus enjoy interesting, regionally meaningful games right in Missoula.
Although I agree there is no need to move up at this point you are clueless about where the money comes from . Football unlike the minor sports runs a surplus and subsidises these sports and I don't have a problem with that, more opportunities for more students.
That you assert football is causing the school to cut teachers is beyond ridiculous. We don't need a medical school at UM, the numerous medical schools in this country are already trolling worldwide to fill the slots.
Having spent quite a few years working in California I have seen first hand that failed state and have no desire to see it metastatize and spread to Montana.

No worries about medical care......... your gay-marriage-advocating Obama is going to take care of all that.
