Another Move Up Opinion

You guys kill me every offseason
It's almost like people talk about it like they have never heard of it. Where are my favorite posters Everett hammertime and unmista? In the words Bart Scott "can't wait!"

And in other news... I hear Ryan Kessman is on the way to UM. Him and Tab Perry. LOL

Yes prime, you missed it....as in the main idea of the piece. The point he is making is had there been strong leadership with a commitment to having Montana football excel to its highest level, UM may have been one of the the schools the Mountain West Conference would have offered. And.....wouldn't it be nice to actually show we could have competed on the same level as those other Rocky Mountain institutions plus enjoy interesting, regionally meaningful games right in Missoula.
Before millions are spent on "move up", maybe the entire academic side of UM could benefit by increased spending on academics....Montana is not Texas....they increase athletic budgets and cut teachers...UM is fine, just where it is. Build and finance a med school or create a vet school at MSU, then get back to spending money on football...

Although I agree there is no need to move up at this point you are clueless about where the money comes from . Football unlike the minor sports runs a surplus and subsidises these sports and I don't have a problem with that, more opportunities for more students.

That you assert football is causing the school to cut teachers is beyond ridiculous. We don't need a medical school at UM, the numerous medical schools in this country are already trolling worldwide to fill the slots.

Having spent quite a few years working in California I have seen first hand that failed state and have no desire to see it metastatize and spread to Montana.
Well, Moose...much of that money comes from people like me and the taxpayers, along with student fees. No one has asserted that football is causing anything. What Athletics is doing is draining funds needed for some very basic things, like countering over crowded classes and shortages of classes, etc...By the way, you're right, this is my opinion, but unlike your "facts", the fact is medical schools are not "trolling" as you say, but searching for cash customers. The rejection rate of US med schools is mindboggling...if you think Montana has adequate med care in the 21st century, you are one very misguided person, and if you actually do live in Tejas, the shortage of doctors in rural areas and smaller towns is severe....you can dig up facts, but opinions are some thing else. Football is being played at the right level in Montana. The spending on other sports is about where it should be, but is the spending per capita subsidized? And, by whom? As for California, you can believe whatever you wish. I do well, my neighbors do well, my city is doing well, my county is doing well. As for our universities, they are still among the very best and cheapest in the world. Ain't that a pisser.? the state government might be broke or say they are, and do all they can to get more money, but the majority of the people are not. Sorry to disappoint you.

No worries about medical care......... your gay-marriage-advocating Obama is going to take care of all that.

the title of this thread is misleading. by using "another", i was under the impression there would be different ideas suggested rather than the same 10 things coming up over and over and over and over and over and over and over and.....

So. It sounds like we are all in complete agreement that we are not Texas and we are not Idaho.

i'm not completely sold yet. can anyone offer some facts and data that can state without a doubt that um is not like idaho or texas. i need numbers....

:poke:

Oh, what a missed opportunity. To think we could have been playing top tier teams like Wyoming and Hawaii. Think of the national coverage and recognition. Other states would finally takes us seriously and our attendance would be much higher. We would be sooooo much better moving into the Mostly Whimsical Athletic Conference. What a step up and just think of the excitement as playoffs neared every year. Oh wait - what? There are no - playoffs! Well at least we would still have the excitement and rivalry of Griz - Cat every year. What's that you say - we would no longer play each other. Damn - this deal gets better by the second. Quit trying to f up a good thing you egotistical nimrods. We live in a state with just over 1 million people and the Griz are located in a town (yes town - not metropolis)under 100,000   . The state is huge and many of the fans travel a long way to watch the games because there are local Montanan's playing. Not going to be many if you move up. Why, because Marc Mariani was not the norm and speed is what we will need more of. Hello out of state recruits. Goodbye fans who relate with the program. Good God - the Bobcats should be raving about the Griz moving up. They could finally win a Big Sky Conference Championship outright.

hmmm, and the problem is......? If gay marriage threatens you, you need to do some serious introspection.

If the Griz turned down the MWC that is feckin ridiculous. Let's play against teams that until recently were D2 instead of actual D1 athletic programs. Oh at least we might get to play Idaho again yayayayayayayayaayay

Sounds like a touch of self loathing to me.......maybe you should come out?

..while your school with it's lackluster, dismal athletic program continues to keep UM in the B league of FCS.

But are we Wyoming? I think that needs further discussion

That is definitely an interesting discussion. Looking at Wyoming's roster, it looks like they have 3 returning lettermen from the state of Wyoming, and 3 additional local kids who redshirted for 6 total in-state players on the roster.

I wonder if MSU or UM alumni would be willing to forfeit having a team made up of roughly 50% montanans for a teams made up of 90% out of staters.

I think the question has to be asked what the situation be right now had the UM said yes to Benson's WAC invite last year? We would be preparing for an inagural season in a conference that won't exist, and surely you can't think that that MWC would invite UM based on the WAC's invite alone.

Idaho = Horrible uniforms, campus, surroundings, location.

Wyoming = Horrible Uniforms, campus, surroundings, location.

I pray we are not Idaho or Wyoming!
