I did the updated review of Washington-Grizzly Stadium after a visit last fall. Stadium Journey has hundreds of correspondents all over the world. Some are professionals, but most are amateurs like myself. I had followed the site for a while when the owner put out a request for a Montana correspondent. I volunteered and did a review of Bobcat Stadium. Later I did Worthington Arena, then reviews for the Idaho Falls Chukars and the Missoula Osprey so they could get reviews of all minor league ballparks. I hope to get to more places eventually. I'll freshen up Worthington Arena this winter since its been reconfigured, maybe get to some more Pioneer League parks this summer, and maybe Holt Arena in Pocatello next fall. The Dahlberg Arena review needs freshening up and more pictures as well so I hope to do that someday too.
When we review a venue we rate the food and beverage, atmosphere, neighborhood, fans, access, return on investment, and bonus points-all on scale from 1 to 5. My overall rating of your stadium came out to be a 4.4 which is very good. It turned out to be the 7th highest rated college football venue in 2014.
Every now and then the StadiumJourney.com website puts out a rating based on all these different reviewers using their scoring system. It's fun, sometimes creates controversy, and most importantly-a lot of clicks on their website. But since it's not the same person going to all the venues, the rankings end up being somewhat arbitrary. Some correspondents are more stingy with their rankings than others. Also, some stadiums may have a great atmosphere and fans, but really bad access or food or something and it really dings their overall average. So things can get a little out-of-whack. But that creates the controversy and the fun and the clicks.
Washington-Grizzly is a great venue, and I think the ranking is well deserved. But surprise-surprise...y'all have a die-hard loyal-long suffering Bobcat fan to thank for it.
Oh, the irony...
