. Once again, you played in a completely different era of football, when sacks and pressures were not valued nearly as much. Quarterbacks were more willing to hang in the pocket, and they were used to taking hits. Compare that to the modern QB, who is much more likely to break outside the pocket than force a throw downfield. That is why I’d argue pass rush creates a blanket for the secondary. If you do not have elite athletes at DB, you can make up for that in other areas. But if you are not creating pressure through recruiting freak DLineman, then you have to make up for it by having ultra athletic DBs who can survive broken plays and run with ultra athletic receivers.
