2025 defense

I was talking generically. Responding to a general comment. My comment had nothing to do with the Griz. Learn to read.
So you do not see the correlation? In a post about getting beat on third and long, and how to stop that from happening by recruiting more athletic DBs, the connection seems pretty obvious. I actually do agree that we have some pretty athletic guys waiting in the wings, but our guys last year were still a step behind. Not as bad as the dark years before Bobby 2, but still not good enough, and it ended up being one of the bigger problems the Griz had, especially in the playoffs and against the Cats when it mattered most.

Nope. No correlation. Generic answer to a generic question. My comment had nothing to do with Griz. I played d-back in college. I know that a better DL is not the most important factor to making a secondary better. Don’t waste my time.

Oh lord 😭. Once again, you played in a completely different era of football, when sacks and pressures were not valued nearly as much. Quarterbacks were more willing to hang in the pocket, and they were used to taking hits. Compare that to the modern QB, who is much more likely to break outside the pocket than force a throw downfield. That is why I’d argue pass rush creates a blanket for the secondary. If you do not have elite athletes at DB, you can make up for that in other areas. But if you are not creating pressure through recruiting freak DLineman, then you have to make up for it by having ultra athletic DBs who can survive broken plays and run with ultra athletic receivers.

The number of pass attempts by a team in a college football game has more than doubled from 1970-2020 from 15 to 32. This makes pass rush and secondary play both more important now than it was in 1970.

Yes, I played and I have followed football closely for decades. You never even played at the college level. Looks like your longest jump in track was in high school. Haven’t even beaten your high school mark. What a dud you turned out to be in track in college track. You are clueless about football. And I said athletic, and good, d-backs are critical. Now you are just copying what I said initially. You appear not to be very bright either. You talk in nonsense.

What does that have to do with the Griz secondary? The number of plays per game has increased too.

Gemini: “During the early to mid-1970s, a typical Ivy League team averaged between 18 and 24 passing attempts per game.”

I’ve said many times that I was a dud in college track. I’ll be the first one to admit it. I also believe I had a significantly better coach in high school than I did in college. But I’m clearly not clueless about football, Hoops.

Sure, you played four years longer than I did. I was also recruited for football. I made the choice to run track at the U of M rather than play football at Carroll, Western, or Minot because more than anything I wanted to be a Montana Grizzly. I don’t see why you think I’m bothered by not jumping far in college. I don’t mind. I was never going to the Olympics, but it sounded like fun to be part of a team at the D1 level. I could’ve run at UTRGV, MSU, or pretty much any mid-tier Division 1 track school at the time. Nowadays probably not, the track inflation has been pretty insane. I mean holy shit, the record book basically got rewritten at the 25 AA state meet. Montana kids are finally starting to catch up with everyone else. Was choosing Montana the best competitive decision? Probably not. What a stinker that choice ended up being, but oh well, we live and learn. I’d argue I’m in a much better place now as a regular student than I ever was as a college track athlete. I also went through one of the dumbest possible injuries a jumper can get. I tore the medial collateral ligament in my jump foot and had to switch from being a left-left-right jumper to a right-right-left jumper in college. Honestly, I’m pretty proud of the marks I was able to get while not jumping off my dominant foot. I don’t think there are many kids who could fully switch jump legs when they are truly left-foot dominant and still make it in the pit. I’d send you my foot scars from the surgeries i’ve gotten but i think sending feet pics is definitely against the rules.

It has to do with Jump’s comment that sacks and pressures were not valued as much in that era as present day.
Even if true, that has nothing to do with the discussion about his comment about the Griz secondary, nor my generic comment saying the quality of d-backs and athleticism is more important that having a good DL, in terms of secondary play. You have ADD. And you were never on field in football and certainly don't understand football.

HOW HAS THIS BEEN YOUR GO TO RESPONSE FOR TWENTY FIVE YEARS. Kenny Dillingham coach for ASU never played college football. He damn sure has a deeper understanding of football than you do.

It actually adds so much context! Perhaps not for you and your narcissistic worldview where you believe everything revolves around your own words, but it did provided more context for my thoughts.

Jack aka PlayerRape aka mtpoopsfan isn’t worth engaging with. His emotional maturity and knowledge of football has remained stagnant since 1971.

You say that only because you can't keep Two of the most unknowledgeable football posters currently on the board. Almost the whole board knows to ignore you two. And emotional maturity. You two have about zero. Funny comment coming from someone like you.

I was addressing 5280's comments in that post, not yours. Your reading and comprehension levels are weak. Did you struggle in school?

What does a message to reaction score ratio mean and what does it mean that you have twice as many posts as reactions in regards to the board ignoring your posts? What does it mean that you and Oldn are the only posters who start threads that no one replies to?
