2017 Vim's Montana High School Football Recruiting List

2016 Class B Playoffs (Semifinals)

I know most of you will be paying attention to the UNC game. But if you want to watch a good game in person, head over to Rollin Field and take in the Fairfield/Missoula Loyola semifinal. Should be a dandy.

Vim, what's your take on Loyola's QB, Round?

Kellen is a coach's dream at the QB position. 4.0 student. Great leader. As a player, he is strong in the pocket and you can tell he has worked on mechanics over the years. Outside the pocket, he can do damage and is a hard runner to bring down. He is comparable to Tanner Wilson out of Polson but Tanner is a step faster which can sometimes be the difference between an NAIA player and a FCS player.

As a safety, basically its the same comparison, Tanner Wilson. At the FCS level, I would say he is worth a shot as a PWO at either QB, S, or OLB for his GPA, leadership ability, and talent (football IQ). Didn't make my preseason Top 100 but he will definitely be on the final Top 100 after the season is over and the evaluating is done. He is a big reason why Loyola has been so successful this season and possibly THE reason they beat Colstrip last week.

He plans (hopes) to go to Notre Dame next year for school. Doesn't sound like any football plans after this year. Great kid.

So the plan here is to let the championship games finish up and let the post-season accolades be announced. After that, I will rank the kids and establish an updated list. Obviously, 12 Montana kids have already committed between the two FCS in-state schools while a few others in the Top 100 have announced their commitments to NAIA schools.

AA All-Conference Selections: http://406mtsports.com/high-school/football/scoreboard-prep-football-all-conference-honors-class-aa/article_dd44f310-2983-5e34-bd7b-9dd4aa562950.html

A All-State Selections: http://missoulian.com/sports/high-school/football/class-a-football-griz-recruits-highlight-all-state-list/article_c38153e8-be7f-5736-be31-738d76d692fd.html

Cat and Griz recruits showing up in big spots all over these lists. AA All-State selections have yet to be released. My prediction is that Nate Dick will win the Gatorade Player of the Year. However, I think his best offer right now is from Carroll College where they are recruiting him as a QB (where he wants to play). The Griz and Cats are looking at him more as either a WR or DB.

As for the list, it will be changing once AA All-State selections are released. The Top 5 is staying the same because those five kids earned their ranking. However, several of the Griz recruits will be moving up where they are currently ranked with a few staying around the same spot.

What Griz fans should keep in perspective here is the 2015 Montana recruiting class that featured Jesse Sims, Colin Bingham, Holden Ryan, and Dalton Daum at the top. These four, along with Josh Sandry, were considered the "All-Star team" as most described it. Here is how I viewed that class back three years ago:

1) Jesse Sims (Corvallis) - TE/DE (Montana - everyone should know his story as well. A weight-room warrior. The Griz need to find a way to let him flourish at DE and not move him inside.)
2) Colin Bingham (Big Sky) - TE/DE (Montana - a ridiculously talented TE prospect who excels at both blocking and catching. It is a shame he can't be a traditional TE in Stitt's offense. If you guys got to watch him in high school, you'll understand why.)
3) Holden Ryan (Billings Central) - ATH (Montana - has battled injuries first two years...so talented)
4) Dalton Daum (Butte) - WR (Montana - I think everyone knows his story)
5) Mitch Brott (West) - OL (Montan State - started every game his RFr. year for Cats)
6) Josh Sandry (Bigfork) - SS (Montana - started three games (I think) his RFr. year)
7) Brayden Konkol (Belgrade) - OLB/SS (Montana State - started final 3 games of RFr. year)
8. Logan Jones (Glacier) - ATH (Montana State - HM All-Big Sky special teamer in 2015)
9) Marcus Ferriter (Butte Central) - DE (Montana State - 2014 Southwestern A Defensive MVP)
10) Josh Hill (Glacier) - MLB (Montana State - 2014 AA Defensive MVP. You guys got to see him in this year's Cat/Griz game 8-) )

11) Jayce Gilder (Corvallis) - TE/ATH (Eastern Washington - on the 2-deep this year)
12) Andrew Harris (Glacier) - DE (Montana)
13) JD Ferris (Dillon) - QB (UM Western)
14) Kyle Reitler (Skyview) - OL (Rocky Mountain - All-Frontier 2nd Team Center as a sophomore)
15) Isaiah Cech (Helena High) - MLB (Carroll College)
16) Cory Diaz (Big Sky) - RB/LB (UM Western)
17) Cain Boschee (Glacier) - DB (Dickinson State)
18) Tre'von Strong (Skyview) - DB (Montana State)
19) Tanner Miller (Huntley Project) - DL (Rocky Mountain)
20) Hunter Berg (Skyview) - OL (Montana Tech - younger brother Dawson is a top prospect this year)

21) Kaeman Richards (Butte Central) - MLB (Montana Tech)
22) Matt Murphy (Big Sky) - OL/DL (Montana Tech - not with team anymore)
23) Walker Cozzie (Capital) - MLB (Montana State)
24) Bryan Wilkes (CMR) - OL (Montana State - not with team anymore)
25) Parker Bernhardt (West) - OLB/SS (Carroll College)
26) Byron Rollins (Sentinel) - DL (Montana State - currently on 2-year mission)
27) Tucker Rauthe (Glacier) - SS (Montana Tech)
28) Paul Hart (Helena High) - WR (Carroll College)
29) Brady McChesney (Glacier) - QB (Montana State)
30) Trent Farnsworth (Wibaux) - OL/DL (Rocky Mountain - not with team anymore)

Now one thing you guys should notice is that the Bobcats did a decent job of picking up the "other guys" in this class. Mitch Brott, Brayden Konkol, Josh Hill, Logan Jones, Marcus Ferriter, and Tre'von Strong have already made positive impacts for their team so far in their young careers. Braydon Deming, Bryson Deming, Mitch Roberts, Michael McGinnis, Tanner Wilson, Matthew Rensvold, and Trevor Hoerner can be those "other guys" for the Griz in this recruiting class.

Vim,
In your opinion, who is going to be the sleeper in this years class. By that, I mean he has not committed to either school and will walk on to one of them and make an impact sometime down the road?

That is a hard one this year. I'll just do it per classification.

AA - Taylor England (Helena High) - TE
A - Jaylen Taggart (Hamilton) - DE/DL
B - Cantor Coverdell (Fairfield) - WR
C - Ty Morgan (Ennis) - DL
