Ya think?

griz5700 said:Way too many ifs with Gregorak. He's Mr. rah-rah but what else has he proven that would make you think he is head coaching material? The Boulder incident and getting fired at UNLV immediately takes him out of consideration, especially with Engstrom I assume. He needs to prove he is a strong, capable Defensive Coordinator before he takes on a much larger role.
I don't see anyone on this staff ready to become a HC.
Bobcat said:Said it before and I will say it again. There is a new king on the block and it is NDSU. They are on their way to a third national championship in 6 years of playoff eligibility, when our two programs have 3 combined in a total of 70 years of playoff eligibility.
We can make all the shitty North Dakota jokes that we want, but it doesn't change a recruits mine. Yes it is cold in Fargo, yes it is flat, but I don't think many of you realize that Fargo has a metropolitan area of about 250k last time I checked, and constantly has two other Division 2 colleges in Moorhead Minnesota across the river. Buddy of mine told me that the combined college population in that town between NDSU, and Moorhead State, and Concordia across the river is over 30k. I have been to a few parties there during my days up in Grand Forks, and they blow UM and MSU away. Downtown scene in Fargo is also no comparison. They are also 3 hours from Minneapolis/Saint Paul where the majority of their stud recruits come from. They will continue getting excellent recruits and being a top notch program.
They also understand one thing the Grizz don't understand right now. To be a consistent winner, you need to pound the rock on the ground and play lights out defense. At least MSU is trying to get there.

You are one profound MoFo aren't you? Isn't every team trying to play lights out defense?

I base this solely on their teams' performance. More specifically, the losses we have endured from legitimate playoff contenders. Unlike in past years, the losses we have experienced with this staff have been different in that we have lost so soundly. I think next year will be the first real year where they can be fairly judged of what their team is capable of without external distractions.
Because of this, I do not feel any of our current coordinators are capable of being head coaches. I need to see better performance from their players before even considering an internal hire at this time.
See... this I find funny.
The team gets hit with darn near a nuclear bomb when it's OC/DC leave and the head coach is fired and then starting QB goes on trial and is suspended for the season. The team goes 5-6. It's not good.
Then the next year everything is expected to be magically fixed? The team doubled its wins and halved its losses, 10-3. That's a good accomplishment.
It is great? No, the Griz were 0-3 against playoff contending teams.
It the world over and should this season be chalked up to a total waste? Hardly. A 10-2 regular season is a great accomplishment considering what this team has been hit with.
Also, "Lost so soundly" other than the NAU game the Griz lost by 1 score to EWU and Coastal. Yes both required comeback attempts but the offense showed up and the defense made adjustments and shut down the teams.
Looking at those three losses give some credit to the defense for late adjustments:
Coastal: 177 yards (of 476 total), 7 points, 1 turnover in the 2nd half
EWU: 202 yards (of 540 total), 14 points, 2 turnovers in the 2nd half
NAU: 209 yards (of 416 total), 6 points, 1 turnover, 1 missed fieldgoal in the 2nd half
The defense, under the leadership of Gregorak made pretty good halftime adjustments in all three losses.
Part of this "adjustment" was the opposition sitting on the ball trying to run clock. That is hardly due to Ty Gregorak making such awesome coaching adjustments. There are coaches around the BSC that will tell you going up against the current staff is much easier than the last one. The record seems to indicate they could be right.

My issue if he were to apply for the head coaching job at UM, which I'm certain he will once it's vacant, which it's not in 2014, and very well might not be again in 2015, would be the fact that he was turned down for the head job at Montana Tech. How could Haslam justify hiring someone for a prestigious head coaching job such as Montana when that person couldn't get an NAIA head coaching job. And please, Hammer and Oredigger, I have plenty of respect for Tech, and I happen to think Chuck Morrell is a good coach and great guy, so don't think I'm knocking Tech. I'm just saying there's a reason Ty didn't get that job, and instead, he's a candidate for the head coach at UM? Not in my book. But, I also agree with Brint, that's not for me to judge or say actually. Unlike others on this board, I'm FULLY AWARE and fully accepting of the fact that I will play NO role in who the next head coach of the Grizzlies will be.
Yes, it was, but perception seems to count more at Montana. That isn't likely to change any time soon.PlayerRep said:griz4life said:Yes, the CU strip club stuff is still on the first page of any Google search for Ty Gregorak. That might be too much for Engstrom's change in leadership.
I agree. However, it was eventually shown that TG was never at the strip club--proven by the video.

So... save the Sac State game I'm just not seeing that:
2nd half stats:
App St: 171 yards, 3 points, 2 turnovers
UND: 105 yards, 7 points
OPSU: 86 yards, 0 points, 2 turnovers
PSU: 186 yards, 7 points, 2 turnovers
UCD: 149 yards, 7 points
CPSLO: 131 yards, 0 points, 2 turnovers
Sac: 300 yards, 28 points, 1 turnover
USD: 200 yards, 3 points, 1 turnover
Weber: 4 yards, 0 points, 3 turnovers
MSU: 194 yards, 7 points, 1 turnover
So looking at the Grizzlies final stats their defense allowed on average 381 yards per game which is about 191 per half. Looking at that the defense did better in the 2nd half on 6 of the 10 games, were just about at the average in 3 of the 10, and just 1 of the 10 games they were pretty badly burned.
Additionally, scoring, the Grizzly defense allowed just about 23 points per game, which, if all things were even, means they should be allowing 11.5 points per half. However the team was allowing 7.6 points per half. And if you get more technical and remove a few scores opposing teams special teams or defenses scored on the Griz the Grizzly defense was allowing less than 1 TD per game in the 2nd half (6.2 points per game).
Call me crazy, but that seems pretty damn good.
If you want to hump Ty's leg thinking he is the man for the job, be my guest. I will just be thankful you are not making the decision. :thumb:
In other words, you can't refute the stats, so it's all in your head?

Oh come on. TG had never been a DC, had he, was just a year or two from having his press problem at UNLV/Boulder, was at a D-II, and was 32. By next fall he will have been a DC for several years at UM, and will be 36. Just because the Tech AD screwed up, is not reason to hold something over TG's head. Tech was 3-7 this year. 8-3 the prior year; 3-8 the year before that. Maybe okay for Tech, but two 3 win season out of 3 years is nothing to be proud of.
