More specifically, the losses we have endured from legitimate playoff contenders. Unlike in past years, the losses we have experienced with this staff have been different in that we have lost so soundly. I think next year will be the first real year where they can be fairly judged of what their team is capable of without external distractions.
Because of this, I do not feel any of our current coordinators are capable of being head coaches. I need to see better performance from their players before even considering an internal hire at this time.
See... this I find funny.
The team gets hit with darn near a nuclear bomb when it's OC/DC leave and the head coach is fired and then starting QB goes on trial and is suspended for the season. The team goes 5-6. It's not good.
Then the next year everything is expected to be magically fixed? The team doubled its wins and halved its losses, 10-3. That's a good accomplishment.
It is great? No, the Griz were 0-3 against playoff contending teams.
It the world over and should this season be chalked up to a total waste? Hardly. A 10-2 regular season is a great accomplishment considering what this team has been hit with.
Also, "Lost so soundly" other than the NAU game the Griz lost by 1 score to EWU and Coastal. Yes both required comeback attempts but the offense showed up and the defense made adjustments and shut down the teams.
Looking at those three losses give some credit to the defense for late adjustments:
Coastal: 177 yards (of 476 total), 7 points, 1 turnover in the 2nd half
EWU: 202 yards (of 540 total), 14 points, 2 turnovers in the 2nd half
NAU: 209 yards (of 416 total), 6 points, 1 turnover, 1 missed fieldgoal in the 2nd half
The defense, under the leadership of Gregorak made pretty good halftime adjustments in all three losses.
Part of this "adjustment" was the opposition sitting on the ball trying to run clock. That is hardly due to Ty Gregorak making such awesome coaching adjustments. There are coaches around the BSC that will tell you going up against the current staff is much easier than the last one. The record seems to indicate they could be right.
